Tamoxifen side effects

Hi everyone, I am newly diagnosed DCIS. 1 month post lumpectomy & spoke to Onc today re starting Tamoxifen after radiation. Side effects sound scary..just after some thoughts from people that have taken it? Onc said it reduces  the reoccurance risk by 40% V severe side effects, & has left the decision to me??? Feeling confused & overwhelmed. TIA
  • Hi @sdando, Tamoxifen is usually tolerated very very well. The list of side effects are only possible side effects and lots of people get none. Just give it a go and monitor yourself. If any side effects do occur just tell your oncologist and they will either change your treatment or address the side effects.

All drugs including panadol and antibiotics have several pages of possible side effects and we don't usually get any of them. Tamoxifen is no different and it will improve your chances of no return which is great.
    Best wishes
  • Hi @sdando
I've been on Tamoxifen since August last year. I was and am still in perimenopause.
I found the first 10 weeks a challenge with significant fatigue, hot flushes every hour during the night,  brain fog.  I do acupuncture to help with hot flushes,  in the acute stage was going weekly,  now just monthly.  It has worked for me as in hot flushes are virtually non existent. The fatigue lifted after the 10 weeks.  I now just have tiredness,  constipation, and sensitivity to noise. I find it manageable.
Good luck,  sing out if you want more info.
By the way I take mine first thing in the morning,  and always stick to the same brand, sandoz.
