Starting Chemo Monday

Know I am doing the right thing having it.....  but so many things going through my head

Having 4 rounds of TC over 12 weeks,   keep wondering if I should be asking more questions, but then I cant think of what those questions should be :D

Guess I just need to stop thinking and roll with it.  Am lucky to have a supportive husband and lots of people around me to help out
  • Hi @TaraJ, sorry you are going through this. So many have gone through chemo. I had 3 AC and 9 taxol rounds. I got through it. Lots of water before, on the day and afterwards. Walking helps too. A rest when you need it. Eat whatever but lots of vegetables are good. I imagined the chemo being like a golden light that kills cancer and nothing else. It just helped me think about chemo in a positive way as that stuff entered my body. Thinking like that stopped me being fearful of it. Take a friend, a book or something that distracts you. Good luck with your treatment.
  • Hi @TaraJ Be prepared and it will be okay. Have antacids on hand, movicol (or similar), gastrostop, panadol, antihistamine,. May not need any of them but if you are prepared then it prevents nasty side effects taking hold. The hospital will provide you with anti nausea drugs. Buy some head coverings as well. Rinse your mouth out with salt water twice a day to prevent mouth ulcers (or try aloe vera juice-worked for me). Keep your skin moisturised. In other words, pamper yourself for the next twelve weeks. Sit down, put your feet up, take short relaxing fresh air walks, cuddle up to your pets (unless they are fish), read some books, spend time doing your favourite hobby. Whilst the chemo is doing its work, enjoy your moments. Sending big hugs.

thanks Blossom, great advice.  Went to the chemist this morning to get my steriods (dexmethsone) for monday  and got some gastrostop,  etc so I feel sort of prepared. If I dont need any of it ~ even better :)
  • well I have survived a week .... feeling okay,  felt like I had a mild hangover Wednesday,   the sore legs are the worst,  had to take a panadol so I could go and buy a hot water bottle..   So if anyone has any tips would loveto hear them.   My tastes buds have gone,   and todays new symptom is itchy head .   But overall I think I am doing okay
  • Itchy head is probably your early sign of hair loss. After itching it may start hurting so if that happens, shave it off as it won't hurt then. My legs also hurt and the Onco told me it was my imagination. The only thing that relieved mine was Ibuprofen which I wasn't supposed to have. Medical cannibis may also help
  • Hello to all
I start weekly chemo on Monday for Triple negative breast and lung cancer for the next five months . Feeling a  little apprehensive but am in good hands and was told hair loss was a sure thing I am prepared for side effects and have been fully informed.  I know my journey is just beginning but have a very positive attitude.

  • stay positive Kate,  think thats the best way
definatly being fully informed is getting me through,  knowing you have done everything in your power to be organsied and prepared for whats to come.
Although does seem like along way to the end as I lie here on the couch :)
