Hello. I have been taking Arimidex for nearly 4 years post surgery/ chemo and Radiation. I've =now recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and could it be the Arimidex or maybe a result of Chemo and/or radiation?

Hi @Pearl - there have been a few comments about thyroid on the blog in the last 12 months or so - but I don't think there is any link to Breast Cancer or chemo/rads or tabs. It is not uncommon in women.
An interesting point - my Breast Cancer surgeon is a specialist in BC and thyroid ......and a buddy who had BC also had thryroid problems (ongoing.)
Here is a link to some research on the matter!

All the best to you xx

That link is really interesting and sure takes some reading (and understanding) but I can certainly see that there is some connection between hypothyroidism and radiation to particular areas. Thankyou for your reply. xx1

To be honest, I didn't read it all - and I don't totally understand it ..... and hope I don't get it!!0

It's really quite common in women and in particular post menopause. Hence also why it is common in women who've had breast cancer, occurrence doesn't always mean it's because of having breast cancer.
This link is quite easy reading

Thanks for that link too, Primek It is indeed easier to understand and I like how it sets it out in tables that are easy to follow0

Thanks for the link Primek. Arpie when I find an article challenging, eg, science based research, I read the introduction or abstract and then scroll to the findings or conclusion. I also check the country in which the research took place.
