Just wondering is there much of a difference between Panadol and Panadol Osteo apart from the mg's of Paracetamol and the price?

Well a nurse I am. Panadol osteo is just a slow release paracetamol which you take x 3 times daily which can give better pain management. Over a 24 hour period it actually is slightly less paracetamol (3990 mg) than taking 2 normal panadol tablets x 4 times daily (4000mg ) ...which is the maximum recomnended safe levels for your liver.
Personally even post op I found osteo better as you didn't get the "wearing off pain" and waiting for "it to kick in" pain management which you get with traditional panadol.
It can be easier with osteo as you don't have to remember to take it as often and for many just a twice daily dose can provide good coverage for chronic pain.

My Oncologist suggested Panadol Osteo. I suffer what feels like aching bones. I find with normal panadol if I 've waited too long before taking it I don't get the full benefit from ordinary panadol.0

I concur, I take Panadol Osteo and as they have said it takes the edge off and is a slow release...its all I use. x0

I agree with everyone else - my oncologist (radiation and medical) both suggested Panadol Osteo because it is slow release and taken every 8 hours - I generally take it 6 am, 2 pm and 10 pm before going to bed. I also take Targin 12 hours apart & so take it around 8 am and then 8pm for my bone mets to stave off any breakthrough pain. They are my friends4

Thank you for that explanation @primek I always thought it was just a stronger dose of paracetamol, I have been on panadol osteo for a couple of years for osteoarthritis, but never took them 3 times a day, at one time i thought they weren't making a difference at all so stopped taking them.... i soon realised I was quite wrong! I've started to do the 3 times a day doses now as I am aching a lot more now. Never realised until the past 2 weeks that it was cancer making me ache so much, I had just put it down to needing a massage, sitting wrong maybe or the fact I've not been to a chiro in ages & needed to.

I was on tooooooo many Panadol Osteo for my arthritis (8 daily - the ortho surgeon got it wrong). I changed to only one Panadeine a day at the suggestion of the pharmacist which is far better all round. Worth speaking to your specialists. Thanks to Brenda for raising the query.1

I tried them for a day and stopped as it made no difference to my hands at night but sounds like I should of stuck it out for a bit longer, might give it another go now. Margie. x0

I find Panadol Osteo beneficial when my bones are aching - a side effect I suffer but as my body adjusts it is more intermittent than permanent, thank goodness! I find Nurofen or Panadeine more beneficial to me when it is joint pain! I know we are all different in how our bodies react.0
