Wearing a bra after reconstruction

Hi,

I am 44 years old and had a bilateral mastectomy 12 months ago. Expanders were put in at the time but they got infected and had to come out. After going through the reconstruction process again, I have had the implant exchange to silicone 4 weeks ago. The plastic surgeon is being a little vague about whether I need to wear a bra down the track. He says 'you can if you want to'. Not very informative?

I can easily go without a bra (which is great!) but then I wonder whether the muscles will start to go over time. I am about a 32D so I kind of think I should?

Does anyone know the answer?

Thank you

    Hi there,

I don't have implants so not much help on that note. However many of the girls on the reconstruction page say they like going without a bra. I guess like anything if your Dr is ok with it then it may be a personal choice. I guess no matter what gravity may come in to play at some stage.

I wish you good health and hope all goes well this time round for you with the implants.

Hi, I had a bilateral mastectomy and tissue expanders followed by implants. I guess I am about a 16C now. My Plastic surgeon recommended I wear a bra, and he is fine with it being an underwire bra. He said gravity will cause the new boobs to sag, and that wearing a bra will help to prevent this. It is now 4 years since my surgery and my boobs are not sagging yet.
