  • Hi Joanna, my name is Jess from BCNA. I just wanted to get in touch as you to say hello and let you know that there is an online support group in the network for women with triple negative breast cancer that you might like to connect with. You can find and request to join the group here: http://www.bcna.org.au/group/16948

If you need any help in the network at all, please just get in touch. Jess x

  • Welcome to the online network Joanna. This is THE BEST place to find support and advice as you go through your treatment.Sometimes chemo is done first to shrink the tumour down, before surgery.Try not to worry too much,as your oncologist does what is best for you, depending on your pathology.Like you,I also have an amazing daughter. When I was first diagnosed, over 12 months ago now,my husband was overseas. My daughter ( she is 24) put a mattress on the floor in my room so she could be there if I woke during the night.I had difficulty sleeping also, but this is just part of this whole thing, and this time next year you will most likely be on here reassuring newly diagnosed ladies and telling them not to worry too much!!!!'Please stay in touch, and use this forum as a support whenever you need it.No question is silly on here:) Cheers Robyn
  • Thank you Hazel M, I know that I should take one day at a time! But working as a nurse on a busy acute surgical ward... I nurse these beautiful lady's that come back from surgery, it makes me look at things slightly different perceptive ! Needed that cyber hug.
  • Thank you for replying Jessica V, I started what they call a dose dense chemo and I'm having 3 separate chemo's. These are the drugs, Doxorbicin, cyclophosphamide and paclitaxel. Yes there are some side effects but I always think it better than this aggressive tumor! Awaiting for my surgan to contact me for an update of what's happening. The oncology team want me to finish chemo and than have surgury, I must say I'm reall struggling with this I just want it out... Not really sleeping, but have an amazingly supportive daugther...
  • Hi Joanne,

Welcome to this lovely supportive group. I hope we can help you feel less alone,

I had my GP visit on 18th Dec and couldn't get an appointment for mammogram and U/S until 7th Jan, and even then the initial biopsy was done by  Fine Needle Aspiration, so I did not get any info about the size or type of cancer until the tumor was removed by surgery and then a week on for pathology to be completed on the tumor.

Howevery, It must have been very upsetting for you to know that you had triple negative cancer and had the  BRCA1 and yet  not being able to get on with treatment because of it was Christmas. It should all get moving now though. Did you say you have started chemo already? What type are you on?  I hope it all goes well. Keep in touch with us, even in the night there are likely to be people here.

    best wishes

  • So sorry to hear you feel isolated, sounds like you have decided on a plan on which operation you are having. Try to take one day at a time, not always easy but looking too far down the track will only make you anxious. it can be a hard road but you can do it:)Wishing you all the best, sending cyber hugs to you,

    HazelXx
