Prosthetic Bra for Pacemaker

I'm enquiring for my girlfriend (with dementia) who has had a mastectomy and is having trouble finding a   prosthetic bra which suits a pacemaker.  All bras seem to have their  strap going over the top of the pacemaker which causes rubbing and irritation.  At present she is pinning her bra strap to her sleeve. We did find some very comfy playtex bras but they don't have a pocket so the prosthesis is slipping down.Any suggestions would be grateful. I am also a breast cancer survivor  helping my friend with this.

  • Thank you so much. I cut up a t-shirt today and sewed a pocket into the bra, has turned out really well. Ill print out all this info and give to my friend for future reference. Thank you

  •   I did it once, 18 years ago, but i sewed it in too tight  top and bottom and had to redo it. The top edge that meet the clevage section  actually needs to 'bulge' and show ,as a natural breast mound would. No bra fully encloses a breast and therefore not a prosthesis. But I remember when i first started wearing it was self consious  of it showing. Until i learnt , as a C then D cup, it has to show, so being covered in fabric in a pocket is OK. After those first few attempts ,i started invested in pocketed bras. But they can get  very expensive for good well structured ones.

  • I've contacted Tracy G & Ill search for a pocket pattern to insert in our latest purchase. Thank you everyone.
  • I would recommend contacting https://www.traceyg.com/

Tracey G-Prosthetics & Lingerie , they can help on phone, or zoom ( especially if your not near their brisbane or maroochydore  store) and help find solutions and suggest pocketed bras they cut different ways once you tell her wehre the pacemarker is located. If it is like a port a cath that sticks up, i would also suggest some soft foam , may be an x back bra might put straps further out., bra strap  non slip shoulder grips  maybe not strongh enough,  BOOB clip for the back.

There are a couple others who also do online zoom consults, Erilan does,www.erilan.com.au

You can also go to the Amoena website and search for distibuters, they are far and wide and not all are equally good, so worth a drive if you can get to a good one. ( department store ones seem to not be as good as the rare specialty stores)

If your near Woollongong i can recommend CasaMia Lingerie for masectomy bra options and an in person  fitter , make appointment.

Ther are also patterns to sew your own pocket into a bra. They used to sell them precut too, not sure it they are still around. You can also buy a fabric cover for a  prosthesis  for comfort in a non pocketed bra. But a well fitted full cup style is usually needed to keep it in. There are many types of prosthesis as well.
