Latest on using topical oestrogen creams like Ovestin while on Letrozole or similar
I've nearly done 4y on letrozole. My breast cancer was 6mm ER/PR positive. I had local wide incision followed by radiotherapy, no chemo. I was told to stop using Ovestin Cream and Vagifem. I get UTIs and vaginal dryness and soreness. I'd dearly like to recommence Ovestin. My GP said the medical thinking was changing a little toward allowing use of topical oestrogen creams while still on Letrozole etc. Has anyone else investigated this with their GP/oncologist? Since I was ER and PR positive I have held off but I'd like to know what other people's experience with this has been.486Views0likes9CommentsYES Org is having a sale - help with atrophy and dryness
Just wanted to let those of you who are suffering from V atrophy and dryness know that YES org is having an online sale until 25 June 2018 and has free shipping for orders of a certain value. Their products have made a huge difference to my life and brought relief since chemo slammed me into early menopause. Yes products are endorsed by many breast cancer organisations and contain no oestrogen. If you are interested the link is below. www.yesyesyes.org Further discussion about these symptoms (including other's experiences with these types of products) can be found in BCNA's closed group http://onlinenetwork.bcna.org.au/group/9-lets-talk-about-vaginas111Views3likes4CommentsNew Australian MonaLisa TouchTM clinical trial
MonaLisa TouchTM (MLT) is a new, non-hormonal treatment for women with vaginal atrophy (VA). Vaginal atrophy most commonly occurs after menopause, when oestrogen levels fall and the walls of the vagina become thinner, drier and may become inflamed. VA also affectS women who have had breast cancer, where medications affect oestrogen levels and bring on menopausal symptoms. This often distressing condition can cause painful burning, itching, dryness, painful intercourse and pain during urination. MLT is a type of fractional CO2 laser technology treatment which involves pin-point laser applications to the vaginal lining. At present, there is not enough evidence about the effectiveness of MonaLisa TouchTM for it to be recommended as a medical treatment. It is currently expensive to access and there is no Medicare rebate available. This article provides an interesting overview of fractional CO2 therapy for vaginal atrophy. University of NSW Associate Professor Jason Abbott (a gynaecologist and obstetrician) is currently running a clinical trial in Australia which will evaluate how effective MonaLisa TouchTM is in treating postmenopausal VA symptoms in women with a history of breast cancer. The study is being conducted in Sydney. You can read more about the trial on our Clinical trials for women who have completed active treatment webpage.761Views1like28CommentsEverything is shrinking!
I haven't been here for a while and thought this would be a good place for advice. Its 4 years since diagnosed with BC and 2.5 years post treatment. I have been so focused on my general health, resuming work and looking after sick elderly parents that I have neglected my sexual health. Basically everything is shrinking (except for my waistline). 56 and post menopause, sex is very painful. I've been using Yes moisturiser and lubricant and not able to use any hormone treatments. My question is does anyone have experience using vaginal dilator therapy and physio? I think I'll need to see a gynaecologist at some point after the holiday period. Thanks in advance. Manufactured in England, the water based moisturiser is the first certified organic product put on the NHS in England available on script from doctor. Unfortunately, we don't have vaginal moisturises available on script in Australia. From what I have been advised from BCNA Policy they do not believe worth pursuing an application for vaginal moisturisers to be made available on script here in Australia. For anyone suffering vaginal atrophy and unable to treat with estrogen pessaries/creams (on script) I suggest you have a look at these products. They cannot reverse vaginal atrophy the same as estrogen but some ladies on this site have found they definitely help matters. Vaginal moisturisers are best used every 2nd or third day, the pre-filled applicators can be very expensive so if you can afford them these products are worth a try (I think they have free samples). Just check out the site. Always remember to run list of ingredients past your doctor. https://www.yesyesyes.org/breastcancer/ For further information this is an article written by Susi Lennox, co-founder of Yes which was published in a Newsletter for the charity, Cancer Options UK www.canceroptions.co.uk. You will also find some extensive feedback from customers from all over the world on their testimonial page https://www.yesyesyes.org/why-yes/customer-expert-testimonials/?cat=7 I buy direct from Yes as I think it cheaper however if looking to buy in Australia you may have some luck from the following companies: http://www.greenorganics.com.au/ https://organictrader.com.au/catalogue/311Views0likes30CommentsWhy dont we talk about this?
Hello, I was diagnosed October 2013, surgery and reconstructive surgery continued, chemo and then tamoxifen which I have stopped taking. Why aren't we told about all the side effects? Why I wasnt told I had cancer from the start then that's a whole new question too as surely this process would have been handled differently. The chemo has depleted my oestrogen and I am now with a nil operating vagina. I'm a happily married woman but its impossible to engage in let alone enjoy intimacy and what can I do about it? It's like the doctors don't care! I have taken on alot of naturaly therapies and diet lifestyle changes but if anyone knows anyone we can talk to, to get this important part of our relastionship back on track please anyone any direction would very much appreciate it :-)1View0likes4Comments
