I had reconstruction with implants in 2012. I have just found out my left implant has ruptured. I am in a private health fund and was looking at DIEP instead of implants again, but was told the cost is $20,000. I don;t know what I will get back from my health fund and Medicare. Anyone had it done private and can give me an idea on outer pocket expense. Can not wait to go on Public waiting list. Debbie291Views0likes3CommentsExercises
Dear Ladies im wondering ... it has been already a year since my double mastectomy n reconstruction with implants ... n I will love to start boxing or lifting small weights ..... is it too much? I don’t want to believe that since the reconstruction I can’t do much... or since I got diagnosed everything had to change. There is like a blank space in my mind for those 2 long years that I fought n now I wanna feel like before.:: too radical? Any advice would b appreciate it263Views1like24Comments1st proper bra fitting
Hi all, not sure if I should post this here or in the choosing breast reconstruction group but here goes. In March 2017 I had a double skin sparing mastectomy with immediate silicone implant reconstruction followed by 25 shots of radiotherapy to my left breast. My result was great initially but due to the radiotherapy, my left breast is smaller and sits a bit higher than the right. I am told its not too noticeable but I’m self conscious about it. It can be improved by further surgery but I’m just not ready for that yet. I have been wearing the kmart seam free crop tops since then because they were comfortable but I now want something a bit prettier and more feminine so I can look and feel as good as possible until I’m ready for more surgery. I tried the usual places like Myer and David Jones but no one seems to have proper bra fitters any more. I spoke to my breast care nurse who sent me to a place called femmeline in Croydon. (I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne). I met a lovely lady called Jasmine who fitted me for some beautiful new bras. I also bought a partial breast form which fits inside the bra on the left and evens them up. I didn’t realise this but Jasmine told me we can be reimbursed up to $800 every 2 years through Medicare for breast forms! My breast form was $169 so I will be fully reimbursed. I also have extras cover through Medibank private so I was able to get almost all of the cost of my bras back too! I feel so much better now that I am able to look “normal” again. Anyway, I thought someone else might be interested with this info because I didn’t know about it before184Views1like7CommentsIMPLANT OR AUTOLOGOUS FLAP
Hi ladies, I am hoping someone couold share with me what the implants are like as a reconstruction choice. I had a DIEP FLAP in May and unfortunately had many complications and after 5 operations in 12 days and 3 weeks in hospital, they couldn't save my right breast 😭so I now have an expander in there and I hate it!! IT hurts!! I have spoken with my PS to see what the plan is moving forward and he said we can try a TUG FLAP (tissue from my inner thigh) or implant. I really wanted my breast to be mine and not implants but I really dont know if I can go through this process of operations and recovery again (bit of PTSD I think!) and if I have any more scars I'm going to look like Mrs Frankenstein!! But I am worried about having one implant boob and one of my own tissue, will it look odd, will it feel odd etc etc. I am soked with my left breast, it looks great, feels soft, great size and shape, I couldnt be happier! If anyone has been in the same position as me, I'd love to chat, but I'd also like to know how people feel about their Implant choice.144Views0likes5CommentsReclaim Your Curves Breast Reconstruction - Sydney Support Lunch - Sunday 26th August 12 noon to 3pm

I have the Mentor Memorygel textured implants which are on the "voluntary recall" list in the US but I don't know what the advice is here in Australia. I had my reconstruction (after double mastectomy) in the public system in Sydney but I have not been contacted by the plastics team about the lymphoma risk. Does anyone else have textured implants and if so what are you doing, are you leaving them in or having them changed for the smooth ones or having no more implants? I have no idea what to do. I don't really like the idea of waiting to see what happens. Thanks!132Views0likes5CommentsNeeding a mastectomy but not sure about reconstruction...!
I have been diagnosed with high grade DCIS and have had two excisions but not clear margins. I am having a mastectomy and I cannot decide whether to have a double or single with implants or a DIEP single (not enough tummy fat for two!!). I have been reading a lot and speaking to lots of lovely ladies but I am more confused than ever. I am worried about the implant going UNDER the pectoral muscle. Who has implants under the muscle and how have you found its been? I would really welcome some honest comments. C124Views0likes4Comments
