Colouring regrowth of hair after chemo
Hello everyone Thankyou to all the lovely people who provide such valuable information and personal insights/observations re breast cancer. Your words of wisdom published on this online network provided such comfort to me during 2020 when I was undergoing active treatment. I am now on Femara and hope it does its job. This is a very minor issue really in the scheme of things but I have about 1 inch (in the old money!) of head hair regrowth which looks incredibly unsightly (and there seems to be a lot more grey!... Oh well!) and I was thinking of using a vegetable dye to brighten to a blonde!! Has anyone had any experience with doing this?...I finished chemo in June and Google says to wait about 6-12 months to put colour in however I read vegetable dyes might be safe! Otherwise I will just wear my wig which has been my 'friend' during this year. It's very hot though in the Summer and I am heading North from South East Queensland to a more tropical climate so would love to have the wig off for a while. Any thoughts anyone? I hope you all are having a Super week-end xx warm wishes....2.1KViews0likes14CommentsTrying to get through the journey of growing my hair back
Hi all I am 6 months post chemo and I have hair, which I'm very happy about, however I am struggling with what to do with it. I used to have long brunette hair that I straightened every day (it had a natural annoying wave) and now it's grey and really course and quite curly. I got a hair dresser to put a bit of colour in it on Thursday and, to cut a long story short, I didn't like it and because I had a night out planned last night I decided to rectify things myself. Not a good decision! I proceed to turn my hair yellow, then green, then orange. I then had to resort to using an old brunette hair dye I had at home and now I've gotten rid of my lovely textured grey colour and am a solid blocky brunette. I'm 44 so am not yet ready to be grey, however, everyone loves the colour and I guess I kinda liked it too. I now don't know what to do. I miss my old hair, I hate not knowing where I'm supposed to go with my hair style. I'm looking to get some advice from a really good colourist although have to wait 4 weeks to get in to see her! My hair was my crowning glory and now it feels like a dear old friend who I can't connect with anymore. I'd love to hear some stories of hair growth such as, did the texture change and gone back to normal after some time? Please share any nightmare attempts at colours/styles to make me feel better about myself too. Thank you!1.1KViews1like42CommentsUnder arm hair after node removal
Hi everyone, I’m 2 months out of lymph node removal, and 1 month post mastectomy. I purchased an electric razor about 6 weeks ago but only succeeded in pinching and nicking the skin in my good armpit. Currently I’m just letting it grow. I’m figuring I’ll be wearing long sleeved tops when I’m out anyway. And if I’m not - it will be tshirts and people will just have to deal with it. ive never been a waxer - always ended up with I grown hairs if I waxed my legs. The scar under my arm is just below the hairline but I am very wary of shaving and damaging the skin. I’ve already swapped to an all natural deodorant which works brilliantly. What solutions (or not) have you come up with ? I’m thinking I’m just going to embrace my hairiness and horrify the people who happen to notice it!How long does hair take to fall out?
I'm on my second round of chemo and my hair has started falling out- but just bits and pieces. In the mean time it looks terrible and I can't style it because my scalp hurts. I cut it into a short pixie to make the falling out process less awful but now it's all flat and weird looking so I'm keeping it covered. There is hair all over the place but it's still not falling out full-scale. I don't feel like I'd be able to shave it either as my scalp feels too sensitive. What did you ladies do? (I'm attaching a picture of my recent pixie cut. I can't get it to look like that now because every time I try moving my hair it hurts and I get a handful of hair, now it looks all squashed and patchy. Also I don't look as chirpy as that at the moment, my neck has gone kind of fat too). )588Views0likes37CommentsNobody told me I’d look like Teen Wolf
Hi guys, whilst I’m wildly happy to have finished chemo (AC/taxol) about 7 weeks ago and watching my hair take off, what I’m not so excited about is all the facial hair that I seem to be sprouting. I’m going Michael J Fox in Teen Wolf a good run for his money! Its possible that I’m so used to being bald as an egg that any hair now seems excessive, but my young son has even pointed out my new beard and moustache. can I ask if this is normal and how long it takes for this hair to hopefully disappear? I’ve got dark chin hair and then a fine coating of blonde hairs all over my face. And secondly, perhaps more importantly would it be ok for me to start getting my eyebrows waxed now or should I wait longer than 7 weeks post chemo? I’ve smashed out a mastectomy/recon in between to pass the time 😆 I am due to start radiation in the next 2 weeks. Thanks all!515Views0likes24CommentsEyebrow tattoo / microblading / feathering in Melbourne for cancer patients
Searching for a reputable eyebrow tattoo service, for microblading / feathering in the Melbourne Metro region. Has anyone recently had this procedure done and do you know if there are any suppliers that offer a discounted rate for cancer patients?284Views0likes2CommentsOde to missing hair
Hi All! Half way along on my 12 weekmy taxol, monthly Herceptin regime. The hair started falling out after about week 3. I didn’t think this was going to be a big problem for me, was looking forward to trying all sorts of interesting headwear. The reality, though, has been quite confronting, and by far the hardest thing to deal with so far. The head is itchy, with infected sores, pimples and incredible sensitivity. All of this you guys know, right? It’s a pretty common theme on here. So, my hair was my ‘thing’, my way of expressing myself, my way of aging disgracefully, and complimenting my zany personality. Now I feel that identity has been ripped away and all I’m left with is a slightly sad, exhausted, pimply visage in the mirror. Even my super cool tshirts have gone by the wayside as I don’t know what to wear on my head to go with them and everything is pretty uncomfortable anyway So tonight I made a movie looking back on my hair over the years. It’s a kind of homage, celebration, and memorium to what was, and hopefully what will be again. Tell me I’m not the only one? Share your lovely locks on here and we’ll commiserate together (and maybe get a bit of a nice giggle too) Onward and upward, my spiky goddesses! Thanks for listening. Here’s my short movie https://m.facebook.com/770892291/posts/10158089672392292/?d=n203Views0likes6CommentsHair - what did you do?
Hi all - I am almost a year post chemo and am wondering what to do with my hair. It has come back dark and curly (and a bit mullet like). I am thinking of trying to grow it into a bob and then shoulder length. I think dark hair looks a bit harsh on me and would like to dye it with bits of blonde (hopefully less toxic dye if there is such a thing). My hair is not as soft as it used to be. I did use a cold cap but unfortunately still lost most of my hair. Interested to know what everyone has done with their post chemo hair 😊195Views0likes11CommentsHair regrowth post chemo
Hi, I’m currently just a little over two years post chemo. I had DCIS. As I was premenopausal, and given my type of cancer, I was prescribed tamoxifen and zoladex. My hair was always one of my best features. I know it’s such a small thing to be concerned with given what I’ve been through (and I’m just grateful to be alive and healthy), but my hair is now so thin and sparse on the top of my head. I keep hearing people say their hair is growing back so thick but mine hasn’t been (although that may be because they possibly had a different type of bc than I did with different treatments). My eyelashes, eyebrows and hair are all a lot thinner and sparse post chemo also. I have noticed as my hair naturally falls out and new hair grows the hair itself seems to be getting thicker than it was pre-chemo but my hair is still very sparse. I’m told it’s because of my hormone blockers and the lack of oestrogen in my body. I'm just wondering, is/has anyone else experienced this and how long did it take for your hair to get to it’s new normal? I’m just hoping my hair on the top of my head will fill in a bit so you can’t see my scalp as much. Thanks!
