Dragon Boat for donation
Hello everyone, Dragons Abreast Bendigo have purchased a new Dragon Boat and wish to donate their existing boat to any community wishing to start up a Dragon Boat Team for Breast Cancer survivors. We have had many years of fun with our boat attending regattas all over Australia. Dragon boating has been proven worldwide by physiotherapists to be the best healthy outdoor exercise for women who have experienced lymphodema after breast surgery. As well as enjoying the outdoors exercise we have lots of fun and have made friends all over Australia. A big hello to everyone. Welcome to the Friday Update. This week we have 29 new members. Please welcome @Pickles, @minty, @tommo, @rosieree, and all our new members. I had the pleasure of spending the last week in Newcastle and Sydney with the BCNA team for our Information Forums. The highlights, putting faces to names, meeting some incredible women, men and their supporters as well as introducing people to the online network. Thank you to everyone who attended. Community highlights Have you seen the Best Of feed? This is collection of some of the best liked content in the online network as curated by you, the members. When enough members click the Like and Awesome reaction buttons on a post, the post goes on to appear in Best Of. Check it out here. Yesterday, 13 October, was Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Our member Karen Cowley, who is living with metastatic breast cancer, shared her powerful story. Click here to read I’m Not Cancer but Cancer is a Part of Me. On this day, BCNA released a new edition of Hope & Hurdles, a free information resource for women and men living with metastatic breast cancer. Find out more here. You might have seen some spam recently in the online network. While we have measures in places to prevent non-human spam bots from getting through, human spammers occasionally can still get through. Just like you, they registered, confirmed their accounts, logged in, and posted. We put some new filters in place to try and curb them. If you spot any spam (or anything that seems suspicious), please don’t respond to it and do report it. Every post has a flag button so don’t be afraid to use it. News & events As you know, October is Everything Awareness Month, as @InkPetal said. For us, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We’ve got a social media campaign going on called Breast Cancer Doesn’t Discriminate. It features our members sharing their stories to help raise awareness. The response has been amazing and it has prompted more people to share their own stories about breast cancer. If you haven’t seen them, check out our Facebook page. For those of you in NSW, The Dragons Abreast Festival will be taking place on Saturday 22nd October at Cockel Bay, Darling Harbour, Sydney. Experience the excitement of paddling and witness the very moving “Flowers on the Water” Ceremony. For more information visit Dragons Abreast Australia. I went boating with the girls yesterday at the Mackay Harbour, what a great thing to have on my doorstep. I could swap chemo stories, laugh about it, laugh at ourselves and have a great time. I managed to keep up with the girls as we paddled around this beautiful harbour. I am so glad these girls started this as its been my saviour in keeping me fit and healthy ready for Thursday for my next and last treatment! When I go to Brisbane for radiotherapy I intend finding a group there to carry on! Janet1View0likes0CommentsDragons Abreast
well 3 weeks have passed and i went for my first paddle this morning. It was so much fun i loved it. My arms are a little sore but i can not wait till next Sunday!!! I also held a stall at a fete yesterday, sold alot o merchandise and i have a larger fete next Sunday so i will be very busy but i am really enjoying myself. My husband and kids got involved and really helped out. My daughter was the money collector/restocker and it was very cute. She would have the new things on the table before the people had even taken their sold items but it turned out to be a big draw card for all the older people. so it worked well xx1View0likes3CommentsDragons Abreast
I have just been to my first dragons abreast meeting. Unfortunately the weather did not permit the boat going in the water but i met a lovely group of ladies who i know i am going to enjoy spending time with. I am going to have to wait 3 weeks until i get the chance to have a go due to the regatta and a corporate day that the club has planned. I was a little disappointed but it has excited me even more for 3 weeks time. Come on 3 weeks...1View0likes3CommentsGo all you Pink Dragon Boat Paddlers

> Posted on behalf of Marie Bell We are a group of people who have all experienced cancer in some form – formed by members of St Peter’s who wanted to reach out to others. Present members include non-church goers and members of other denominations. We also have one male member and welcome others. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 11.30am at “Cooinda” for a “Bring a Plate” lunch and also at 10am each Wednesday at Magnolia House, First Ave for coffee, where we often have non-members joining us for a chat and a few laughs. Past activities have included breakfast on the beach, lunch at various locations, literary morning, champagne at sunset, dragon boat paddling, a Pink Party (annual event) and our “Biggest Morning Tea” (annual event). Whilst we are not a fund raising group, we have in the past raised funds for special purposes as is the case with “The Biggest Morning Tea”. High on our list of priorities is living life to the fullest.1View0likes0Comments
