DCIS question: Does a core needle biopsy break the duct and cause the cancer to spread?
Last Tuesday I was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) breast cancer in my left breast. I have had two core needle biopsies on my left and right breast. I'm still waiting for the results from the biopsy on my right breast. I have an appointment with the breast surgeon tomorrow (Monday). I'm worried that the biopsies have damaged the duct wall and caused the cancer to spill out of the duct into the breast. Does a core needle biopsy break the duct and cause the cancer to spread? The radiologist who performed the second biopsy was very rough, and he inserted the needle at least six times into my breast (there are six holes/scars in my breast). I live in Victoria and I'm a public patient. My local hospital is terrible and I don't feel supported by the breast surgeon. She is very unprofessional. I'm afraid that I don't have the same chance of survival as a private patient who can afford to see a breast surgeon of their choice. I'm terrified that the cancer has spread because of the biopsies.1KViews0likes22CommentsHere's to all the test's we have to have - a wee jingle I made up - cause well we have to find some
So as some of you may know I'm still going through my second round of breast cancer, and still under going all these tests that my medical have put me though, today I chose to go through my I-Med radiology app to look over how many different producers I've been booked for, and gone through, and I came up with this wee jingle I could turn this into a new version of a Christmas song : you know the one “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me “ Well in here goes this wee tune "On my second cancer diagnosis my medical team gave to me " 4 cannula’s into the veins for all the contrast dies 3 breast ultrasounds 3 biopsy ( one double, one triple, then a single ) 3 mammograms 2 MRI’s 1 PET Scan 1 MRI guided biopsy 1 genetic test for family history And still no surgery Now tell me you just didn’t sing that tune in your head hopefully that put a smile on your dial , as we try to stay positive and support one another this October, breast cancer awareness month Happy Saturday every one hopefully my medical team will soon know when they want to do the surgery ???132Views0likes6Commentsto biopsy or not
I have recently found a lump (2 months ago) which I initially thought was due to my cycle but soon realized that even after my periods the lump still remained. I went to my doctor who then referred me for a mammogram and ultrasound. I arrived for my appt where I was told they weren't really keen on giving me a mammogram due to my age (36) and thought it best just to do the ultrasound, so I had the ultrasound and then started to get dressed, as i was doing so the radiologist told me not to bother as she thinks it would be best to do a Mammogram now. (after this i realised that they must of spotted something on the ultrasound). So i had the mammogram also on the same day. A few days later i went to see my GP for the results and was told they had seen dilated ducts with soft tissue present in my left breast and the radiology doctor has suggested a biopsy. My GP rang the radiology centre to speak to the Dr who wrote up my report and confirm whether it would be a FNA or Core biopsy, to which he confirmed a Core biopsy. A week later I went for my core biopsy appt at the same place i had mammo/ultrasound. Once again they decided to do a quick ultrasound and called the on duty Dr in to view. i was then told by this Dr (not the same guy that wrote up my initial report) that they wouldn't be doing the biopsy as he didn't see it as necessary. So didn't end up having any type of biopsy done on the lump. I now am very confused and worried that something has been missed as i can still feel the lump (it feels like a small rock covered in gravel) I have an appt with my GP next Tuesday but am unsure of what he is going to say. Im a single mother with 2 children and don't feel comfortable waiting a few months to see if the lump grows but i am unsure if i should get a second opinion or even where to go to get one. I have also reviewed the initial mammo/ultrasound report where the Dr states a biopsy is suggested. it also states that i have heterogeneously dense breasts whish makes it harder to spot any calcifications or masses on mammogram. Im confused as they obviously spotted something on the first ultrasound to warrant them wanting to do a mammo after firstly saying they didn't think it was needed .754Views0likes18CommentsCore Biopsy - Titanium Marker Clip?
Hi there, Wondering if anyone can help with a question regarding a core biopsy... is it normal to have a titanium marker clip inserted into the biopsy site at the time of the procedure, that can be used as a 'marker' for any future screening or treatment? I have annual screening due to family history. My ultrasound last week showed an abnormality so the doc has asked for a biopsy to be sure. I went for the biopsy yesterday and they told me that they would be putting in a marker clip so I said I didn't want the biopsy until I had talked to my doctor again, which I am doing tomorrow. The idea of a piece of metal, albeit tiny, being left in my body forever sounds very strange for me but the radiologist said it was standard procedure? It is made of the same material as is used for hip and knee replacements etc. Thanks in advance... x302Views0likes21CommentsCore Biopsy Timeline
I’m having a core biopsy on a small lump picked up in mammogram/ultrasound. My biopsy is on the 3rd December. I’m not too worried as we all think it’s a mouse (fibroadenoma). It’s pretty small, less than 1cm. However, my nan had a cancer the size of a pea and had a mastectomy so because of family history and one dodgy gene we’re heading down the core biopsy route to make sure. I need to book into my doctor for results about two weeks in advance because we’re in the country and he has too many patients. So how long should it take core biopsy results to come back? He will ring me and get me to come in if it’s urgent. But better if I have the appointment already lined up.202Views0likes10CommentsGeneral discussion
