Hi there,Wondering if anyone can help with a question regarding a core biopsy... is it normal to have a titanium marker clip inserted into the biopsy site at the time of the procedure, that can be used as a 'marker' for any future screening or treatment?I have annual screening due to family history. My ultrasound last week showed an abnormality so the doc has asked for a biopsy to be sure. I went for the biopsy yesterday and they told me that they would be putting in a marker clip so I said I didn't want the biopsy until I had talked to my doctor again, which I am doing tomorrow. The idea of a piece of metal, albeit tiny, being left in my body forever sounds very strange for me but the radiologist said it was standard procedure? It is made of the same material as is used for hip and knee replacements etc.Thanks in advance... x

I had one inserted at my core biopsy- as the lump turned out to be cancer it came out when I had my lumpectomy . While it was in there for 2 weeks I couldn’t feel it.Best of luck x

I had four clips. I told everyone I had been test and tagged.

Yep - I had some sort of marker clips put in with my surgery early in 2018 @Ness2019 .... they show up a bit like 'tiny staples' on an ultrasound/mammogram.It just accurately shows the area of the existing 'area of interest' ..... and will show for every other scan as well.As @kmakm says - pretty well standard procedure I think.All the best with your ongoing tests & procedures xx

@Ness2019 I had a clip inserted near a Benign cyst they did a fine needle aspiration from a few years ago, it’s still there and have had no issue with it.

Yes I had a clip inserted at the start of my neo adjuvant chemo.....hopefully my my tumour is shrinking so much that they will need the clip to see where it was! ( I am nearly halfway through chemo ) It was an easy procedure.

Yes, it is standard. Use to measure if tumour is growing and to know where to cut if you have surgery.

I also had the clip put in before chemo. It was a pretty easy procedure and I didn't have any problems with it being inside me.
It was in for 6 months till they removed it during surgery. It is pretty small, I was freaking out about this because of the word "clip" until I physically saw it and I relaxed, I was thinking huge metal CLIP ;) my imagination is my downfall!

It was there so they could identify where the tumour was on scans and to see if it grew or shrunk during chemo.
In my case, the chemo killed my tumour and there were only dead cells left when they did the surgery and removed the marker.

Big hugs, we have to go through a lot of strange procedures. Hope all goes well for you x

I feel really dumb but I have no idea whether I have ever had one. There is so much from that time that is gone, gone, gone...
