New Group Proposal - No Reconstruction post Breast Cancer Surgery
Hello members, We have had some great conversations and feedback recently in relation to starting a new group for people who have not had breast reconstruction following breast cancer surgery. I would love feedback in relation to the following questions: * Name of the group * Should the group be private or public When thinking of the name of the group we must ensure it captures people who for a variety of reasons and/or circumstances have not had breast reconstruction. Some of these reasons may be: they might decide they don’t want to have any more surgery than they need to treat the cancer; they want to be able to get back to their normal activities as soon as possible; they are just more comfortable with how they look and feel after the surgery; financial barriers prevent them from have breast reconstruction; breast reconstruction might be difficult, or even not possible, because of other health issues they have; breast reconstruction has been delayed. We agree that there are different challenges and questions faced by people who are either considering wearing a breast form or prosthesis (inside the bra or attached to the body to wear under their clothes) or going flat (not wearing a breast form). Waiting for Appointment after Referral Peter Mac
Hello friends, I am newly diagnosed with invasive carcinoma found on a routine mammogram and need a lumpectomy and radiation. I have heard all the advice about not being in a big rush to cut it out asap but I'm curious how long you waited after the referral for Peter Mac? I know it's cat A for surgery (>30 day wait). Trying to keep my anxiety under control but having some idea would help a lot. Hope wherever you are on the treatment path you are feeling good 🙏🏼
Information on reconstruction after Mastectomy please
Hello and thanks to all on this forum. I was informed on Wednesday that instead of having 2 lumpectomies on 10/2 on my Lobular cancer they will have to perform a Mastectomy as MRI showed more cancer than Ultrasound. I need to decide by Tuesday 31/1 about a reconstruction (if that’s even possible) can anyone help with their experiences please? I am a bit of an emotional wreck, 66 years old. Thank you
One is BIGGER than the other!
Hi I had an early diagnosis and lumpectomy, chemo, radiation and follow up treatment of right breast in 2003 (aged 45 years). As I've aged, my treated breast is shrinking and shrinking and shrinking and is now very obviously a different size to my left breast. 1 Has anyone else experience this? 2 Do you think it would be considered 'medically necessary' surgery if I wanted a reconstruction for health fund purposes? Appreciate any feedback - thank you so much.
Elective preventative mastectomy advice?
Every single day since my wide-excision I have resented my oncologists choices to deny me a double mastectomy, and for my five year survivorship I plan to treat myself to correcting it. The surgery I had left me with permanent pain, and after becoming pregnant, which I wasn’t sure was possible, my other breast grew over a full cup size. There are no bra solutions. And I lost the baby just at the end of the first trimester. I’m left more uncomfortable on a daily basis than I’ve ever been in my life. I don’t have a love-hate relationship with my breasts, they are uncomfortable both to see and touch. This exposition is more for the purposes of illustrating that I don’t take this decision lightly and is not purely out of that life long survivor’s anxiety of recurrence, and I know that it won’t be covered by Medicare. My question is, where do I go? I don’t want to come out of the surgery as a purely medical exercise, I’d like a somewhat smooth chest. Does anyone know a surgeon in Sydney who offers mastectomy and - I suppose ‘sculpting’? I don’t need or want new fake breasts or nipples, I just do not want to come out of the surgery only to recover with new alien lumps and folds to get used to. Decisions on surgery
Hi sadly I have just joined all you wonderful people. I have been diagnosed and given my surgery date. Need some help as I really don’t know what I’m doing and my mind is going around in circles. Breast screen mammogram found a 3cm lump and the ultrasound found another 6mm tumour. Biopsy confirmed cancer. Surgeon is going to try a lumpectomy as I have large breasts (DD) and am not able to get reconstruction as I have other issues. The tumours are on seperate sides of the breast. I just wondered for the ladies who have larger breasts what a mastectomy is like? For people who have had a lumpectomy did you have a tumour in different quadrants?New DCIS diagnosis and surgery
Hi all, new diagnosis of DCIS in right breast (3.2cm x 2.7cm) and ADH in left breast (5.2cm). Appointment with surgeon today to let her know of my choice of treatment (bilateral mastectomy, lumpectomy/mastectomy or bilateral lumpectomy). Surgery set for 13/1/23. Anyone had similar diagnosis before? Any feedback wound be lovely. Thanks :)
