Re: Have you had withdrawal side effects after stopping Arimidex!
Hi @Hopes_and_Dreams, we were diagnosed around the same time. Glad to hear you are doing well. When I saw my Oncologist last year she said I will probably come off Letrozole this March as it will be 8 years & it is long enough. It will be interesting to see if I feel any different, hopefully better, not worse!240Views2likes0CommentsRe: Confused re Zometa-Purpose
@Abbydog I have completed 6 infusions of Zometa over 3 years to improve my bone density. I lost 5% when I started taking Letrozole 6 years ago. I was just above the threshold from being osteoporotic. My bone density has now improved so I will stay on Letrozole for another 4 years. My oncologist has suggested a maintenance dose of Zometa maybe once a year.40Views0likes0CommentsRe: Pilates
I have osteopenia from treatment & have had 6 Zometa infusions. Depending on my next bone density my oncologist said I might need a yearly top up. I have always been an exerciser & at 63 still do pump classes which are weights, body combat & dragon boat racing. I have also taken up reformer Pilates which is a great workout for your muscles using resistance & weights are used too. I don’t know whether this has helped as I have been on Letrozole for over 5 years but just as important is to keep muscles strong as you get older.23Views0likes0CommentsRe: Finished AC. Taxol next
My surgeon told me chemotherapy would knock me flat so I was determined to prove her wrong. I completed 4 rounds of AC and 12 rounds of Taxol & while it wasn’t great I worked all the way through. I had some neuropathy towards the end of Taxol but it resolved completely. I lost my sense of taste & did have a sensitive nose but nothing too bad. My hair started growing back a couple of weeks after finishing but I had been wearing a wig for work anyway so continued wearing it for a while.21Views1like0CommentsRe: Recurrence :(..treatment questions
Hi @eddiek, I had a mastectomy in 2016, then chemo & radiation. In 2019 at 59 I had the other breast removed & double Diep. Like you I was quite active & being fit before surgery helped with recovery. It was a 12 hour surgery but other than the first week being difficult every day got a little bit easier. I was back to work after a month, driving & back at the gym. Back to dragon boat racing at 2 months. As suggested join the breast reconstruction group as there are many positive stories there.15Views0likes0CommentsRe: Letrozole(Femara) +Zoledronic Acid (Zometa)
I have been on Letrozole for 5 years now and have just completed my 6 six monthly infusions of Zometa. I had some aches and pains in the beginning but just now have a bit of stiffness but that could be from getting older. After the first Zometa infusion I had flu like symptoms for a few days but nothing with the rest. My oncologist says I may need a yearly infusion from now depending on my bone density so am due to have another scan. Those side affect sheets do seem scary but serious side affects are rare so I wouldn’t take too much notice. My oncologist also mentioned there is new research to show that bisphosphonates may prevent bone metastasis.34Views0likes0CommentsRe: 4th Melanoma found after skin check
@Cath62, I think for peace of mind at least six monthly checkups & then anything is picked up early. The GP who picked up my first melanoma was a particularly good one I think & once you are seeing a dermatologist you can get in early with any further concerns. @arpie, I hadn’t heard of that rare melanoma either. I knew about Angiosarcoma & asked radiation oncologist about it before treatment & she said she hadn’t seen a case in 20 years but you don’t usually follow up with them years later. It usually occurs after 5 to 7 years. Dermatologist said I was also at risk of angiosarcoma because of lymphodema in that area. Something to look forward to🙄27Views0likes0Comments
