Re: To remove ovaries or not ??
@Greengirl what a toughie! I had a hysterectomy in 2017, due to fibroids - ovaries preserved. I was pre menopausal at the time. Now I am 48 and at the start of full blown menopause... I get a lot of hot flushes which end in me breaking in a sweat...not nice at all. Endometrial ablation sounds a fairly easy procedure in comparison to hysterectomy (mine was rather complex, 3 hours in surgery and recovery was not an easy road). I guess for you, the history of ovarian cancer throws a spanner in the works. It really is a matter of wighing up the risks and benefits. sorry I am not really helping🙈. Good luck with everything xo15Views1like0CommentsPain on scar 9 months after mastectomy.
I had a msterctomy (right boob) last year in November and they also removed 2 nodes to chech if it had spread. The surgery went well and the cancer had not spread. About 2 weeks ago I started getting pain around the scar tissue. It feels like tightening of 'mucles' around the scar and I get shooting pains on the incision site... I ve been to the gp, ultasounds done and nothing alarming came up. I have also started experiencing severe hot flushes where I break into a sweat after a hot flush. I am not on any medication except tramadol for pain. Has anyone experienced this? Obviously there is a change in hormone levels, which would explain the hotflushes but not sure if the pain on the scar is related... ***sigh***211Views0likes5CommentsRe: Was diagnosed 27th November 2019 I'm in some kind of denial
Hi @Eleven wishes...sorry to hear of your BC results. Unfortunately, it can happen to anyone regardless of weight, age, etc. It is ok to have a cry and feel low but dont stay down. You can beat this! You are stronger than you think. I was diagnosed in Aug 2018 with high grade DCIS... I ve had surgery & radiation... I am south of the river and happy to catch up for a coffee if you are up to it. Hang on in there. Big hugs to you xoxo25Views3likes0CommentsRe: Thyroid link?
Hi JoeyLiz...I had a right breast mastectomy 3 weeks ago, on Dec 20. I had bone and CT scan, and the CT scan showed am anormaly on my thyroid. I did an ulrasound to the neck and the results revealed that I have a growth on my thyroid. I am now being referred to the thyroid clinic for biopsy and further investigations. I have also done blood tests for thyroid function and results for these were normal. Not sure if there is a correlation between the growth in my thyroid and breast cancer but hoping not. Good luck with everything.4Views0likes0CommentsRe: Lymph nodes removed
Hi Goci78...sorry to hear about your circumstance. I had mastectomy with 2 lymph nodes removed. I had a drain and pico for 7 days post-surgery. It was draining about 250ml of fluid per day and wound is healing very well after drain removed. Silver chain nurses visited for the week drain was in and they were wonderful! Hope all goes well for you. All the best😇34Views0likes0CommentsRe: Mastectomy due to DCIS
So I had surgery yesterday and it all went well. I was scared to look at my chest and when I finally gathered the courage to do so, I found it was not as bad as the mental picture I had. Am now at peace with it and feel this was the right decision. Here is to getting better and new beginning🍷...51Views2likes0CommentsRe: Seeking support and friendship
@Dani1981 the treatment is normally aligned with the category of breast cancer, that is invasive, non-invasive and also the various stages. I think first time treatment for non invasive is lumpectomy, followed by radiation...but this also depends on the area of affected breast tissue. Mastectomy does give a high chance of non-reccurence bit then again it all depends on factors as outlined above. Just ask questions on treatment options, risks involved, treatment success rates etc. At the end of the day, every person is an individual and statistics are there just as an indicator or guidance for the decisions you will make. Good luck to you and your mum.
