I have the clear ones. They have some weight to them so they are less `floaty` than the foam ones. Had the foam ones first but they didn't last long and went out if shape very easily. The clear gel ones last longer if your a regular swimmer. Not sure what they cost now but they were $149 ea almost 2 years ago. No medicare rebate although if you have private health insurance extras you might be able to get them to cover at least part of the cost.9Views0likes0CommentsRe: My story
I must have gotten lucky with the group i joined. We meet up for lunch once a month or so. The focus is never about breast cancer but having a laugh with other women who understand what you have gone through. Unfortunately i left it until after my treatment was over to reach out. I really could have used some of that laughter during as its a pretty lonely journey otherwise. @Cowgirl1 regardless of the treatment path any of us take...and everyone's s different...we all had to hear the words “you have cancer” and that's pretty darned scary. @socoda that is interesting reading. Thanks for the link. @Carols i have not seen anything on the number of doses of chemo just the combinations. It seems most oncologists want to hit triple negative hard. I was triple negative and considered high risk ...larhe tumor and positive lymph nodes. Had neoadjuvant AC on 3 weekly cycles x4 then Paclitacel/Carboplatin. I was meant to have the latter weekly for 12 weeks but after 4 weeks it was evident the tumor was growing again so it was stopped and i had surgery and another 2 dose dense AC after the surgery as a safety net, followed by radiation. I am heading towards 3 years since diagnosis and all is good other than joint pain relating to menopause. I am trying hard not to think about what might happen and take heart in the knowledge that the more time passes it gets less likely :)10Views0likes0CommentsRe: Out of the blue a breakdown
I get like that too sometimes. It was worse in the year or so after treatment. Hormones relating to menopause i think. I'm not on any hormonal treatment so i can't blame that. @onemargie i have a mastectimy swim suit which has pockets for the prostheses and swim prostheses. I was nervous too getting in the pool and i only did it when i had no other choice for exercise. The first time i went i put my prostheses in a regular swim suit which by that time was too big for me and as soon as i started to swim my swim prostheses floated out the front for their own swim lol. I was diagnosed in September 2014 and finished my treatments in June 2015. I developed pains in both my knees toward the end of treatment and back a little later. Knees turned out to be osteoarthritis and back is degeneration. Neither of which i had prior to the breast cancer. My oncologist puts it down to menopause .... which also came with treatment. I take panadol osteo, nurofen and fish oil. I tried to take glucosamine chondroitin but it upset my stomach so i had to stop. When i cant walk (most of the time) swimming helps with the knee pain and the back pain has largely settled to more of a discomfort as long as i dont do anything to agrivate it. For a time i did have elbow pains too but they eventually went away on their own...sounds similar to yours just when i pressed down on them. never did find out what they were. I think its really hard not to think its the cancer coming back... So it is best to get any new pain checked if you have it for more than a couple of weeks as much for peace of mind as anything else. I haven't had any bone density scanning done but I'm also not on any hormone blocking meds either. Some seem to have them if they are taking meds that affect bone density.
