Hi Kelly,
I didn't use a satin pillowcase, because it was winter, I had flannelette sheets and pillowcases.
I think I depends on your own body and the chemo regime you are on, to what reactions you have. My first one, I had virtually no side effects. The second one was pretty good too. The third one I felt was the worst, I actually had to lie down and have a little rest on a couple of days (I never usually do that during the day). The fourth one I was really surprised, to have hardly any side effects again.
The main feeling was one of feeling a bit "yucky" that is the best way I can describe it. One thing I did notice, is that I felt like eating food that I don't usually eat, things like burgers and fries!!
One thing I just thought of is...on the night of your chemos, you may find it hard to sleep, I dont know if it is the anti nausea drug they put in your drip, or what. I was tired because it was a big day but found myself unable to sleep, luckily I had some sleeping tablets on hand.
Don't forget to have some Panadol before the cold cap. It is a bit of a shock when they first put it on, but honestly it only lasts for a couple of minutes, then you get used to it. Of course they change it every half and hour, so you get the freeze feeling again, but only for a couple of minutes again. It is worth it to keep your hair.
Just be prepared to lose some hair, just how much is an individual thing, and the chemo you are on, as well. As I mentioned before I have thinned slightly, It started on day 16 after the first treatment. My hair is getting longer, so the hair follicles, that are remaining must be healthy to grow like that. Also the Surya will make your hair, so shiny and will give it lots of body.
It is one month today, since my last treatment, I feel very energetic and normal.
All the best to you, as well. Don't hesitate to ask, if there are any other questions.
Judy.
