Right mastectomy with axillary clearance pm tomorrow. Feeling very anxious. Not sure I'll get too much sleep tonight but keen to get this done! Recieved my berli bra in the post today tho
Hi Molly001, Isn't it an absolutely wonderful feeling to be the other side of the surgery. So good that your nurse is so fantastic too. Rest, relax and recuperate. Xx Cath
Glemmis thank you! Yes I agree, this is what she said, the breast tissue will go to pathology, mind you after Chemo Im not expecting anything at all, Ive been all clear since 2015. She checked notes and she said sometimes they'll do the sentinel node dye again. Ummm NO THANKYOU! LOL didnt make sense, so its great to hear from others. I cant imagine its necessary at all, I never had node involvement originally either. So thanks! xo
Hi Melinda, I am too going to have a mastectomy on the other side & reconstruction of both after treatment finishes. The surgeon didn't say anything about sentinel node testing but I imagine the tissue from the mastectomy will go to pathology just as a precaution. Best wishes.
Hi Molly, so great to hear you are through surgery and comfortable and sounding ok! Please let us know how you progress. I have to have a left mastectomy but diep flap recon too so bit anxious plus allergic to opioids narcotics so concerned about pain relief. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hugs Melinda xx
One step of the journey completed. Comfortable & resting under the care of the most beautiful, caring, lovely nurse. Feeling very proud of myself & my courage. Thanks for your support on here too ladies. Feeling blessed. Molly
Yes, it doesn't make sense that you would need it done. Hopefully that is the case - definitely not something I want done again either. Don't be so hard on yourself Mel. You've been through so much and you have just made an incredibly brave and stressful decision. You have every right to be feeling emotional!! Just do what is right for you to get through the next few weeks. Hugs and best wishes, Jane xx
Hey Jane!! Thank you, yes this was my thoughts exactly, though the Nurse raised it at the Hospital on Monday and I explained that I had it done in 2015 and there would be no need to have it as there is no tumor. It wasnt listed amongst the paperwork, but honestly its an experience I never want again so it really has wound me up Yikes!! Thanks Jane! yes I woke a little better today and back to work. Maybe its just time to try and get used to it, am going to try a few things to try help as just so emotional constantly which is very stressful. xx
Hi Mel, I wouldn't think you would need to have that done if you are cancer free? Same as you in 2015, I only had the sentinel node dye so the surgeon could track which nodes my tumour was draining into and remove them for testing. They inject the blue dye into or around the tumour and then wait and watch to see which nodes turn blue. I actually googled images of the procedure which was quite an eye opener!! If you don't have a tumour then there is nothing to track into the nodes. I hope you had a better nights sleep and are feeling more rested and relaxed. Jane xx
