Nipple delay procedure
Hi everyone,
I am booked for nipple delay procedure in 2 days, then double mastectomy the following week. I am wondering if anyone has had the procedure done and can share your experiences?
With thanks

- melclarityMember@"Butterfly 40" You know I managed my 2nd diagnosis without talking to a Psychologist, I had spoken to one 4yrs prior due to a combination of life changing events, the loss of my Mum, my marriage the year after and then my 1st diagnosis 7 months after that. She was invaluable at the time. I didnt feel the need 2nd time BUT I can honestly say I knew I was drowning in regards to the mastectomy/reconstruction and for me talking with mine after 4yrs was the only way I was going to find some peace. I absolutely did and I havent looked back, its just so complex! mentally/emotionally and physically. There are no right or wrongs at all, we all experience things differently, but for me it was about recognising when I couldnt find peace or emotional stability that it was time to talk things through. So absolutely recommend it to you. Hugs Melinda xoSign in to react to this post
- Butterfly_40Member@melclarity I am glad to hear you are doing well and love your new boob. You certainly have been through a lot, I have been so admiring your courage, honesty and amazing support to others.
Because I have been so emotional every time I went to see my amazing GP, he told me that he can refer me for a psychologist when i need. But he said it was all the normal emotions at the time. He hasn't thought I need to see one yet. I think it's a good idea to see one after my double mastectomy. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I do remember your basket case mess prior to your mastectomy. You have done so well since then. I am very happy for you.
Thank you for your support Melinda! Gentle hugs for you! XxxSign in to react to this post - melclarityMember@"Butterfly 40" Im doing well, the recovery really has been good overall. I love my new boob, but have developed what seems to be some fat necrosis vertically along the cleavage which is sore!! so will get it checked out. Otherwise its good! I found talking with my Psychologist prior to surgery helped so much, as if you recall I was an absolute basket case mess!!! since surgery I really havent been that emotional maybe once or twice in 8 weeks but thats it, so its so helpful. Id recommend it once you are out of hospital! One thing I know you will absolutely get there, dont doubt it, but just be really kind and nurture you and forget everything else, its so important because you will become the most important thing above everyone else and I think thats the whole point. Instead of being everything to everyone else...its time for you! Hugs Melinda xoSign in to react to this post
- Butterfly_40Member@melclarity thank you Melinda! How are you doing with your mastectomy and reconstruction? It's certainly tough going! I am having all those normal emotions before loosing the most important body parts for being a woman, and also the fear of unknown feelings after the double mastectomy. But I am looking forward to have it done and concentrate on the healing physically and mentally. I am looking forward to adjust and accept the new me with two fake boobs, and get my normal life back.
Gentle hugs for you! XxxSign in to react to this post - melclarityMember@"Butterfly 40" sounds like youre doing amazing! certainly is tough going, no two ways about it! I lost my left nipple though pathology was fine, because of recurrence I guess they figured better to be rid of all breast tissue. Im public for this surgery too, so my revision is 6-12 months. To be honest I havent missed the nipple at all and I find that really odd! I think as it was always a bit of dodgy abnormal nipple anyway all my life, so it didnt bother me going. Hang in there, hope pathology comes back ok. Hugs Melinda xoSign in to react to this post
- Butterfly_40Member@primek thank you Kath! I am so happy to hear that your implants are all good. I was told I will be put on the public waiting list for exchange of implants about 12 months.
I am very grateful that my daughter took some nude photos of my boobs two days before my nipple delay procedure. It's going to be my beautiful memories. Once I have my double mastectomy and reconstruction, I will post the photos the pre and post surgery to share with everyone.

Yes it's a very emotional time, let those tears flow. You are losing part of yourself and this upcoming surgery is the reality of it. It's perfectly normal to feel the way you are. Be kind to you. - Butterfly_40Member@primek Thank you Kath. My nipples are covered with a thick foam dressing. I can't see or touch them. I don't know if I can keep my nipples, depending on the biopsy results.
How are you going with your implants? I am having double mastectomy and immediate expanders insertion next Friday. I have been very emotional, tears rolling out anytime.

- Butterfly_40MemberI had the nipple delay procedure done today. My left breast was cut around the outer areola. It's quite sore in my right breast, because the surgeon cut through my old lumpectomy incision, went under my nipple and separated the breast tissue and blood supply from the nipple. Biopsy was done as well to determine if I can keep the nipples. I am grieving that I lost the sensation of my nipples for ever.Sign in to react to this post
