Hello, my name is Adrianne, I am 45 years old & mum to a 4 year old son. On 30th July I was diagnosed with a grade 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my left breast. Have had fine needle aspiration on lymph nodes & core biopsy. My GP has referred me to our local public hospital for surgery & I will find out more at my GP appointment tomorrow. I have been told I will have surgery within two weeks. Would love to hear from other ladies with this type of cancer. I have gone through all types of emotions & now just want the surgery/treatment to begin.

I am so sorry that you are facing this situation. It is a really difficult and emotional time but I hope that connecting with others who are going through this gives you the support you need to get through everything. So welcome and know that we are here to help in anyway we can. I am 47 and was diagnosed with Grade 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my left breast on 13 May this year. I also had an area with DCIS in the same breast. It does get easier once you have had surgery and get all the results that help determine what further treatment you may need. Once you have your treatment plan you feel a bit more in control and things move fairly quickly. I found it helped me at the beginning to keep busy while waiting for results etc. Keep an open mind as you don't know what is ahead just yet. It may not be too bad. Hope for the best but know that you will cope with whatever you have to, we all do. You can add me as a contact if you want and feel free to ask any questions that you may have along the way. Hope the next couple of weeks go quickly for you. Do you have family/friend support to help with caring for your son? My children are pretty much grown up but have given me lots of reasons to keep positive through-out this ordeal. It is a great distraction to feel needed as a Mum. As my daughter has said to me, despite the physical changes I have from treatment, I'm still just Mum to her. My 4 year old neice has kept me supplied with lots of artwork to help me feel better! Hi Adrianne, at 52 I was diagnosed with a grade 3 invasive ductal cancer of the right breast. This was 21mm with no nodes involved ( 10 removed ). That was 2.5 years ago and I have completed chemo, bilateral mastectomy, and now reconstruction, and am currently on Femara due to it being ER+ and PR+. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I am doing really well. This is an awful time for you, but ask lots of questions, and read lots of info. I too can recommend the book that Mich read by Professor Boyages. It is written in a very easy format to follow with lots of analogies that make sense. If possible try and take someone with you to your appointments. Having a second set of ears, and a note pad and pen is really helpful. When you are still shell shocked, it is hard to remember everything that is said. Good luck with your appointments today, and please know that you can come on here and ask anything at all. Hi Adrianne That is great news for you. I am glad your Mum is around to support you. Appointments are stressful and you do need to take notes. Also find out who to contact if you have questions that arise after the appointment. Things should move fairly quickly for you now. Keep busy and take care. Thanks VivW, I have written up a list of questions and will post them Saturday afternoon. Then if I have forgotten anything that I should be asking, the ladies online can remind me. Mum will come to all appointments with me & I will take notes. I am working for the next couple of days so will not be online until the weekend. Take care of you. A

That’s great news, the waiting is the worst. You will have all your questions ready for your surgeon by then. Take a note pad and write down as much as possible, also make sure you take someone else with you as your brain will go into shut down mode and you will only take in half what is said.

Hi Adrianne, I agree with Tonya about making a fuss. Three weeks is a long time to wait when you are anxious. My GP arranged with the surgeon prior to me coming in for my results, so I had an appointment the day after I found out about my breast cancer, and was on the operating table 6 days later. I was in Sydney when this happened. Good luck, and I hope you can get an appointment quickly. Love Chris xx

The squeaky wheel gets the oil! Ring your surgeon's receptionist every day to check for cancellations.This happens all the time and you might get in sooner.It's ok to wait but your levels of anxiety might escalate if you have to wait the 3 weeks just to SEE the surgeon.I' remember how anxious I was when I got the bc diagnosis. I saw my surgeon within days and had surgery within 2 weeks the first time and 3 weeks the second time.I just wanted it over with.I've gone through this crap bc journey twice-2003 and then again in 2010-same breast. Just channel your anger into being proactive and keep ringing! sending hugs, Tonya xx

Oh Adrianne This does seem a long wait for you. I hope your GP can get things moving more quickly for you. This initial phase of waiting for appointments and tests and test results is just torture! On the positive side it is actually good that you are ER and PR + as this will mean they can give you hormone therapy which gives you a much better chance of not having a recurrence down the track! Hope your GP can get you in to see the surgeon sooner. Deanne xxoo

I am sorry that you are being made to wait so long.

I had my mammogram and ultrasound on 17/11/11.

I had a core biopsy 28/11/11.

Got diagnosis 1/12/11

Saw Surgeon 13/12/11.

Pre admission 14/12/11.

Surgery 22/12/11.
