Micro papillary cancer and mastectomy

Hi to all the lovely ladies who have welcomed me to this group. I am having a mastectomy on Friday a Bethesda hospital as it turns out as my initial path was micro papillary cancer and a few other health issues helped with the decision to go the whole breast off instead of lumpectomy. Hoping for no node involvement now. Fingers crossed every one. X

  • Welcome to this wonderful network ,where you will get all the advice and support that you need.As Tonya said,a mastectomy is not really painful, you just need the front opening things for a few weeks because it can be uncomfortable to lift your arms above your head.Make sure you do all the exercises that you get given, because it really speeds up the recovery time.Remember to put things at home at bench height, like cups ,coffee etc.so you can still do things. All the best and stay in touch.Robynxox
  • Best wishes for Friday. As operations go,a mastectomy is not too painful.Take some button down the front pjs and a loose shirt to come home in.You'll possibly go home with a drain in and that's a pain.get your breast care nurse to order a free Berlei post surgical bra and soft form from BCNA - that way you'll have it on hand.Blog back if you need any info and let us know how you go.
