Mastectomy drain bag belt

I am having a double total mastectomy soon and was wondering if anyone has purchased a drain belt and if so where did you purchase it and was it useful. Thanks.

  • My drains never would if fit in that drain belt hing that I did buy so just used the donated bags andthey worked great.

  • Hi Bees

I used a Temu surgical drain belt for two drains post bilateral mastectomy.  Cheap and did the job, but not pretty!  Pic of similar below:

  • Hi Bees

I just had a double mastecomy and reconstruction - I had 6 drains!  If you talk to your breast care nurse they usually have donated and handmade drain bags from Zonta or the CWA.  You should just need two drain bags - they are usually adjustable and just sling over your shoulder/neck and are easy to carry.  I think the challenge with the drain belt is you don't quite know what size the drains will be and they may not fit in the belt?

    Good luck with the surgery.

      Hi Bees,

      I've just had a double mastectomy and have 2 drains (I can't even imagine Koi's 6 bags...!).

Whilst I wasn't aware of the drain belts unfortunately, I would like to add that I reckon anything that can make the drains feel less cumbersome is worth trying.

I haven't enjoyed having the bag hanging around my neck - when I'm up and about, i often wear a zip through hoodie with pockets on the side and can pop them in the pockets.

      Best wishes for your surgery,

      Anna
