Lumpectomy with bilateral mammoplasty

hi

Just saw the breast surgeon today and was very surprised when he talked about another option for BCT involving lumpectomy plus bilateral mammoplasty. Had never heard of it but he talked about cosmetic advantages along with better radiation outcomes

Has anyone had experience with this?

Any advice on this option both positive and negative would be appreciated

My breasts are pendulous these days but not huge, though not A or B cup either

  • Hi Mima, I commented on another post, I didnt realise you did pop this in the main forum!! Cheers, Melinda x
  • Ok that's interesting @Bakdom
articles i have been reading have said if not clear margins then have to go straight to mastectomy so that is reassuring if you didn't have to
the articles were a few years old I suppose and American
  • One small area didn't get clear margins so I needed more surgery. That is always the risk in having a lumpectomy. Luckily the reexcision achieved clear margins otherwise I would have needed a mastectomy.
  • @Bakdom thanks
can I ask why you had re excision
my surgeon is also only planning sentimental node biopsy so no more than 4 nodes
  • Hi Mima, I had this surgery late last year and i'm really happy with the result. I think i've gone from DD/E to a C. I did need a re excision despite having a fair about tissue removed. Recovery has been fairly straightforward, I also had axillary clearance and this has definitely been the hardest part of my recovery. All the best
