Issues with incision healing and possibility dead skin

hi! I’m recently diagnosed and required a 2nd operation 10days after my first lumpectomy on left breast as diagnosed with ILC and a margin not clear. Surgeon not happy with incision healing as breast and areola very bruised and worried skin around incision dying so will not heal. Has anyone else experienced this? What was the outcome?
I saw Surgeon on Thursday and back on Monday to review again. Operation was 8 days ago.
Thanks!

  • I had an area that took nearly 15 mths to heal not big about the size of 50c piece.... Poor Nurses were beside themselves with trying to get it to heal.... then all of a sudden one day with no different treatment, the nurse said oh it is looking better today.... within a week I had what looked like baby skin soft and brand new like in that section it has never been a problem since.

  • Thanks Ladies - good advice. Never had so much incentive to eat more healthy!! Fingers crossed for check up tomorrow.
  • Unfortunately during the cutting tiny blood vessels are disrupted and damaged so some tissue can due off. This can happen during breast reduction surgery.

There isn't much you can do about it but wait and see. Gentle  exercise like walking might assist perfusion of blood to the wound. Eat a super healthy diet to aide healing and if smoking try to stop or at least reduce.

Here's hoping all goes well. Kath x
  • Hi again, @Traynota. The network does tend to be aa bit quieter over the weekends, but there should be someone able to help. Again, I would also suggesf discussing with a breast care nurse for advice.
Hopefully the wound will heal. At this stage, follow your surgeon's advice.
    Take care
