Discomfort under arm with bra

Hi, I’m new here. Just had a stage 2 tumour removed by wide local excision and the wound goes from the back of my armpit to the nipple. I’m finding the free (thank you) Berlei bra too uncomfortable on the scar.. I’ve tried to amend other bras, wear a sports bra, and a maternity singlet.. but I need something that doesn’t ‘cut’ through the armpit at all.. can anyone think of anything, or have you found anything that could provide support for the healing scar but also be comfortable? I’m wearing my daughters t shirt right now!
  • Hi @Louella -you might like to check out Erilan mastectomy bras on line -Australian and a wide range including some that address the area you are having trouble with. All the best with finding something that works for you
  • Thank you so much ladies! Nice to know there are people out there you can ask questions of who have been there
  • You might also try the crop tops from Best and Less (I found them more comfortable with the padding taken out) $10.  My scar is just on the breast but the main problem I had was from the Aux clearance.  Lots of puffiness at the beginning and a weird combination of numbness and super sensitive in places.

Oh and welcome to the forum lovely.
    xoxoxo
  • Hi Louella,  I had the scar in a similar place from my first surgery (still in a similar place now but no nipple or boob).  One of the problems that I found was that the numbness and scrambled nerves made everything painful.  Most of the time, I went braless.  If that's not an option, try the ah bra knockoffs from Kmart or Target - from memory they were about $15.  A bit like a crop top that you step into.  My GP gave me a wad of the soft non-adhesive wound dressings that I could tuck in and around my bra or t-shirt to stop things rubbing.
  • Hi Louella , I had 3 surgeries and my excision was under my breast right where the bra sits . I got some soft seamless singlets from uniclo ( Japanese clothing store at Westfield ) and I would put the singlet on first and then a crop trop or sports bra over the top . I know your scar is in a different spot but this may help stop that cutting in feeling . Good good luck with it
