Diagnosed and surgery within 4 days

Hi Everyone I received a diagnosis from my GP on Monday, 25/08/14. She immediately booked an appointment for me to see a surgeon, which was scheduled for the next day. On Tuesday I met the surgeon, and she suggested surgery, and my surgery to remove the lump from my left breast and a lymph node was scheduled for 2 days later, on Thursday the 28. I was supposed to get the pathology results on Monday, but the surgeon phoned to let me know she hasn't received it yet. I saw the surgeon yesterday for a follow-up appointment, and still my results aren't in. One positive is that the result for the lymph node that was removed was clear, but there are irregularities in the lump they removed, and now I am really scared. My case has now been send to Royal Brisbane for a 2nd opinion by another pathologist. They have found DCIS, but also 2 small spots of invasive cancer, and the lump seems to be much bigger than what they thought. This afternoon the surgeon will phone at 5, to let me know the results, if it's completed. I am so worried, and really scared of what she will tell me. Already in the 3d day of waiting, and I have never felt so scared in my life.

  • Thank you Silke!!  Good luck with the chemo, I am not there yet, but I really hope you will not be to sick, and that you will find strength to get through it.  Lots of hugs for you for tomorrow!! xxx

  • I received a call from the Surgeon on Friday, and the panel said I definitely need more surgery on Thursday.  They will also discuss chemo with me after surgery. So it looks like it won't be radiation, but chemo.  I was really down after hearing this news, but ... if this is what needs to be done, I wil do it!

  • Good news that the invasive cancer has been fully removed. Good luck with your surgery next week. Like I said, stay in touch, you're not alone xx Silke
  • Thank you Silks!  Yes, I've received some news today.  The DCIS was bigger than they thought, and I might have to go back for surgery next Thursday to remove a bit more.  This Friday a panel of 5 oncologists will decide which will be the best treatment option.

The good news is that the 2 evasive cancer spots, which is Grade 3, was right in the middle of what was removed, and they are happy that the evasive cancer is now fully removed.  I am very grateful for that.

I am grateful that I've found this site, I am sure that I will get a lot of encouragement from ladies who has been through so much already.

  • It is 6.30 pm and you will hopefully have received your results. I wish for you that it is good news, but no matter what, it will be dealt with. Breast cancer is treatable. Yes, the actual journey can have its ups and downs, but from those of us who are a little further down the track than you, we will tell you that it is doable and not as bad as one first imagines. Take a slow deep breath, take one step at a time and I promise you will get a handle on this. You have come to the right place! This site is great and I visit it daily for information, encouragement and to occasionally contribute if I have any tips to share. Stay close and let us know how you are. We care. xx Silke
