Core Biopsy

Argh!! Had my 1st mammogram and ultrasound the other week. Have since met with my surgeon to discuss results he seemed pretty pleased, said there was a small area that looked a bit odd but put it down to tissue damage or something because of Radiotherapy. I have till to go for an MRI and the surgeon said I should hear about it in a few weeks. I had a missed call on Monday and had one of those voice to text messages. It was my surgeon and could I call him back needless to say I couldn't get hold of him. But haven't heard anything back so didn't worry about it too much. That was until yesterday I came home and found a letter from the hospital saying I've to go for a core biopsy in on the 11th July. Feel sick with worry now.
  • Hi Gillian, Very sorry to hear that you have to have more testing. Once should be enough, don't you think? I will keep everything crossed for you and pray for good results. The waiting is always the hardest part. Chris xx
  • reminds me a bit of child birth the second or third time around when you know what its like--and not really looking forward to it at all.

If i had to do a biospy again i would take a short acting anxiety medication as i found this quite a difficult procedure and i couldnt really do my breathing -yoga moves  and im slim and they were conscious about that -and just breathing shallowy tended to make it worse-of course it may be different for you .

although i think if i remember people spoke about the nuclear dye procedure as more painful --i found this one a breeze. Its so normal to be anmxious at times; i have been appreciating 'back to business' mode but just making a call to organise my yearly mammagram and i found myself a bit jittery.

    best wishes

  • Robyn and Deanne have said it all - try not to worry and keep busy - let us know how you go.  All the very best wishes for a good result.  Thinking of you.  Michelle xx

  • Try not to worry Gillian. It is more than likely that it is not clear to your surgeon just what it is.The only way that they can really tell what an odd area is,is by doing the biopsy.I understand that you would be feeling sick with worry.I am sure that anyone would be,but as you know,in the BC experience, often things are not what we assume.Try to stay busy until the 11 th.or maybe try again to get hold of your surgeon, and he might be able to give you more of an idea why you need the core biopsy.Take care.xoxRobyn
