Cheap bras

After my right side mastectomy I was supplied with a mastectomy bra, which has a removable fluff filled insert that fits into a pocket in the bra. While it was suitable, I found it too hot in the warm weather, and the style of bra a bit cumbersome. I was in KMart the other day and bought a 2 pack crop top style bra which comes with removable cup inserts which are slightly convex (ie moulded cup shape). I found that removing one insert gave me balance enough (I am a C cup), the comfort of a crop top with good chest and underarm coverage, a nice selection of colours, all for $12 for a 2 pack. These bras may not have enough support for bigger breasted women, but I reckon they are pretty good for we of a smaller chest, so thought I would let those in a similar situation to me, and on a budget like me (cancer is not good for the finances that's for sure) know about them. Can't guarantee they're not made using child labour in a sweat shop in Bangladesh though......

  • Hi Ladies. I became hooked on bras from best and less before my surgery. So comfortable. Now after surgeries I have to get used to supportive bras again for awhile like berlie. Shopping where they sell berlie I discovered a  nice pink and white patterned  cotton bra with front hook openings place for inserts.. Gee they are great.nice wide band at back too. Going in soon for a right breast mastectomy so my choices I guess will be up in the air for awhile.not enjoying all this bra stuff at the moment.

  • Thanks for that. I went to Best & Less today & got some with the Breast Cancer tag on them.  They do look comfortable.

  • I am currently stuck in my hospital bed and can't get to the case with them, sorry, as the bed rails are up and I have drains in after my mastectomy, reconstruction and reduction of the other breast.  I think that they are a Best & Less brand, as that is where I bought them.  There was a rack of them in skin colour from smallish to large, with the largest size 20-22.  The shaped cup inside was removable, and I could tell that they were very comfortable.  The had the Breast Cancer bright pink tag on them and are very identifiable.

  • Hi Paula,

I just checked but as I have thrown out the swing tags, I am only left with the care instruction printed on the back of the bras. As I posted, they are from Kmart, in a 2 pack, mine were 1 pink, and 1 black and grey stripes, each with matching coloured removable inserts. I have been wearing mine non stop now instead of the mastectomy bra, and just toss a scarf on if I think the imbalance is still noticeable, depending on what top I am wearing.

Good luck, I reckon comfort is number one when it comes to how you feel!

  • Hi Jane & Georgia can you tell me what brand the bras were that you bought. Im having so much trouble finding a suitable bra Paula
  • If BC can give you a positive...That's one thing I am looking forward to at the end of my treatment.....being able to buy a bra from KMart!  I'm a 14HH currently and am struggling to find a soft bra after my lumpectomy! I even found some beautiful post op bras on line, but as usual they don't come in my size... :/ (hmmm maybe a good business prospect right there!) So I had to take the wires out of my existing bra...no where near enough support there! but it will do for now...

Ahh! the broad spectrum of trials that are being a woman!

    Hope you are recovering well....

    Xx

  • I found a similar top in Best & Less which helps raise money for the Breast Cancer Foundation.  I bought two to support my reconstruction and reduction of the other breast after tomorrow's operation.
