Biopsy by mammogram

I had my one year follow-up mammogram. Right breast all clear but now there's a new lump in my (previously healthy) left breast.
Doc said he'd book me in for a biopsy under mammorgram.
Considering the first mam hurt like hell - what is a prolonged mam gonna feel like?
Has anyone had this procedure and can describe it for me please.

  • @Fern88, you don’t do things by halves do you ! What a saga for your leg! Hey soon back on track for number 4, then hopefully that’s the end if the accidents!! I had long chemo and rads, now hormone blockers. Takes so long...But sounds good now you have fought back. Keep in touch with forum, we are always here!

    lots of Love Tinks xx
  • Hi 👋 yes it's has all happened really quick,. I love reading about people's experiences & it sure is an amazing forum. The nurse just left and happy to say wound is still looking better every visit, I have my follow up appointment with the hospital 2/6/20, I don't think I will be needing the nurse visits for much longer, then I can tick another thing off my list. 😊

  • Hi, Wow you have had a lot happen in a short space of time.   This forum is amazing isn't it.   Hope your shin is healing nicely now.  Cheers
  • Thank you for your kind words, yes I certainly did, but looking forward to getting past all the chemo cycles then on to the next phase, as weird as that sounds. So you didn't have to have chemo & rads so lucky. I look forward to the day of reconstruction to remove this horrible foreign TE out, but I know it's there for a good reason patience patience. I'm 51 and have already been through menapouse so I don't get any tenderness it's just a awful uncomfortable shape as well.
    Thank you 🌻
  • Hi @Fern88
Sorry you are here but as you have found there's great comfort and understanding as you try and navigate the many twists and turns.  Boy you certainly put your body into a tailspin with your shin!  Hopefully that is now healing and the scar fades!
As to the Breast Cancer hopefully you are now getting back on track with your Chemo routine and the Chemo will soon be in the past.
I had mastectomy and tissue expander, I described it as feeling like a brick on my chest - very strange sensation compared to what we considered a normal breast that only got a little tender when that time of the month was nearing!  My tumour was 50mm and lost the nipple but my saving grace was it was contained to the breast.
My ongoing hormone treatment is a 10 year regime with a few twists and turns along the way!
Take care and best wishes and thank you for your honest post, don't worry about it being lengthy, it's about being able to articulate where you have been and where you are at!  We can all relate
    Take care
  • I had a biopsy by mammogram because the doctor nicked a vein which bled and flooded the ultrasound so they couldnt see where to take the biopsy from. Rather than wait two weeks I chose the mammogram. The only bit was the local stung for a few seconds. Its a bit awkward but ok and the staff were so lovely and caring that it almost seemed laughable. I ended up with a purple boob and a giant haematoma. You'll be fine.
  • @jax1964 i had biopsy by ultasound and a week later biopsy by mammogram  Took a bit of time to do Wasnt painful and they had to position me and I wasnt allowed to move for 15 minutes  The staff were caring and concerned to keep me comfortable through the process  Hope all goes well PM me if you want xo
  • I have had one of these.  I was fearful before hand but it wasn’t so bad. Not as painful as I thought.  I had a local  and it stings at first.
  • Awww that just stinks @Jax1964 .

Biopsies in general are just the pitts.  Both of my core biopsies I nearly jumped off the table when it made that big clicking sound, even though they warned me it was going to do it and not to move.  Probably why the first one missed LOL.

I've never had a biopsy under mammogram but I did have the hookwire checked with that after they put it in via u/s.  That really wasn't too much fun considering it was still terribly bruised from the previous 2 bx's.

All fingers and toes crossed for you for it just be a cyst.  xoxoxoxo
  • I know someone who had a biposy by mammogram.

My tumour was in a very difficult spot so they warned me that they may have to biopsy it by mammogram. It took several goes (ow) but they were able to do it with the ultrasound. K xox
  • It seems such a harder way of doing it tho!!  I wonder who else has had one done that way, by Mammogram @Jax1964

I just thought he's said the wrong thing too!

WOW @JulieVT11 !!  I've never heard of Biopsy by Mammogram before Jax's post!!

    All the best, Jax!!
Me neither. My first one in 2017 was by US so I had to confirm he actually meant mammogram
  • @arpie neither had I until that fateful day and was probably a good thing I didn't know what I was in for
