Baby after breast cancer
Hi Ladies,
I was diagnosed with TNBC in April. I have had a lumpectomy & nodes removed from my right arm. I have 4 weeks left of chemo, then 6 weeks of rads straight after & waiting on genetic testing.
Has anyone out there had a baby after treatment?
If so was there a wait period? I've tried talking to my surgeon & he just says its up to me.
I'm feeling really confused, I really want another baby, but is it silly & selfish as I could have a recurrence?

My story's very similar to lisa8, I had TNBC in 2008 with ACT chemo and mastectomy. Just had a beautiful baby boy in September, no IVF needed (although we've got our embryos if we ever have problems in the future)!
Yes I have declined Tamoxifen so I could try for a baby. No baby and my cancer returned within 12months.
My Dr's were happy with my decision to declined tamoxifen first time around. As I was stage 1 and had a mastectomy.
Who knows what wouldve happended if I was patient and waited while having hormone treatment. I was 28.Im now 31 and cancer free, but still no baby and this time Im not taking any risks. On Zoladex and Tamoxifen for another 3 yrs. Then I will decide what to do.

- Hi Kireboxx, I haven't logged in in ages... Hope you had some responses to your post. I've just completed 2 years on zoladex and am 2 years into 5 - 10 years on tamoxifen. My medical onc has agreed to my request to take a break from tamoxifen to have a baby, then return to tamoxifen to complete my course. I'm pre-menopausal at now 36, with 6 weeks of radiation and no chemo. Happy to chat further, am in Victoria. Rebecca
- 9 months ago I gave birth to my baby boy, after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 at 28years old. I had no children and was told by my oncologist I shouldn't have any as my cancer was hormone receptive. But I took tamoxifen for 3 years (I was on a 5 year trial) and waited 3 months for period to return, then got pregnant naturally straight away! I breastfeed him for 6 months with one boob and then went back on tamoxifen. I know how difficult it is going against doctors advice. I researched a LOT about risks etc, but in the end it was all just statistics. So I followed my gut instinct and just went for it. Best decision I ever made xo.
yes, I went against doctors' advice. I chose not to take Tamoxifen at all (post chemo and radiation) because I wanted to try for a baby. The oncologist was not happy but he accepted my decison. I had my son 2 years after chemo finished and now, another 2 years down the track, am 30 weeks pregnant with a little girl, both naturally conceived after my period returned (thank you Zoladex injections during chemo).
- Has anyone gone against the doctors recommendations for the length of hormone treatment and tried for a baby? My team want me to do 2 years of zoladex post treatment (I'm 6 months into that now) but they haven't particularly said that I HAVE to do it either. I'm also on the 5 year tamoxifen plan.

I was diagnosed with TNBC in June 2011 and after being told I had almost no chance of conceiving naturally, I'm now 39 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby (conceived naturally) and having her next week! Don't believe it can't happen because there are lots of us out there. I was 32 at diagnosis and I'm 35 now.
