a long road

So after 8 weeks of hell, i had the mastectomy wednesday, i couldnt look at myself for the first 2 days, then i just thought well, it is what it is, better than the alternative, still dont like what i see but i spose i`ll get used to it, and knowing it wont be forever does help a bit, still have one drain in, one was removed before i left hospital, even the drains arent as horrible as what i thought they would be, so onto the next chapter, chemo starts the week of my 40th Birthday  :s

  • Hi I agree whole heartily with previous comments. I have 'a weak stomach' so I was so scared about all the procedures and surgeries and it took awhile for me to look at myself each time....lucky for me my brave daughter and funny boyfriend got me through! I didn't think it would happen but I am quiet proud of the scars (2 little ones which have faded now from 1st surgery in February and the bigger ones from 2nd surgery in May a mastectomy and reconstruction) - naturally I still get angry and sad at times when reminded of the scary times but on the whole I am now fit and well and feel I have grown up finally (I am a young 53!). You will get there too and having this support and connection with others who understand is wonderful. Women affected by BC are the most amazing people I've ever met! Axx
  • Hi things do get better, make sure you celabrate your birthday before you start chemo, go and do something you enjoy with someone you love keep smilingxx

  • Hi u will get used to it. I had my second drain in for a month and then got an infection, eventually it fell out . Lucky me. Soldier on.

  • I also found it hard to look at myself, and every time I would undress to have a shower,I would break down crying. My husband used to encourage me to look in the mirror, and after about 4 weeks,it became a LOT EASIER.It has been a year now,and it doesn't worry me at all!One step at a time, and before you know it,you will be on here ,encouraging other new ladies as they begin their journeys:) Stay in touch, because this blog really does help when the going gets a bit tough.Cheers xox Robyn
