2.5 weeks post Lumpectomy and SNB

Hi just wondering if anyone can help me in regards to feeling quite sore still from the lumpectomy and there are 3 quite thick fibres/tendons running from my SNB scar down towards my nipple that really hurt. I know I may have been rather optimistic but everyone seemed to think having a lumpectomy I would be back running and biking etc within a week, whereas I would be in so much pain if I ran with my boob the way it is now. I am normally a 12DD and have lost the bottom part of my boob by about 3.5cm , I have always worn very supportive bras so I have been wearing them. There is no redness or infection , still some bruising and blue dye. My inner arm is doing the weird chafe sort of feeling and a bit of pins and needles in hand. I have been walking on the beach most days but is anyone similar and remembers how long it took to get back to running and riding or swimming? Or have the weird things running down boob?

  • Give it time. I posted at about the same time because my inner and back of my upper arm felt like someone had rubbed it with sandpaper. I am 4 weeks post lumpectomy and axillar dissection and still have the feeling in the back of my arm as well as still feeling numb under the arm. The numbness and pain in the upper arm is becoming more bearable and manageable. I take painkillers at night still but have weaned off of the daytime ones. My scar itches at times which is infuriatingly uncomfortable but a good feeling because it means it is healing. The post op bra from Berlin is a godsend as it it gives great support. Do the exercises to get range of movement and the Pilates dvd provided  in the care package is good also. Time will bring improvement- I promose

  • Hi Lynda ??

Yes, it's cording by the sound,

I got it as well, it's seems huge, but eventually mostly disappeared in a couple of months,

i am a runner, biker as well & was chafing to get back like you are,

from memory, I waited for about 2 1/2 weeks post surgery & was just fine,

Of course, I took it slowly & didn't go far but the buzz of being back running was amazing ??

Just go with how you feel, my oncology nurse was very supportive & told me to go for it if I felt OK !

But yes, I was full of intrepidation for the first run !

    Hope tis helps !

    Tansy ??

  • Hi Lynda,

Thanks for jumping online and sharing with the members what you are going through. Ruth has suggested some great things. Hopefully you can get your hands on that bra.

  • Hi

It's not very long since your surgery and I don't think running etc was recommended until at least 6 weeks postop by my surgeon. Not surprising you still have pain - as long as there isn't any redness and flu-like symptoms it's sounds normal and will settle. The thick fibre/tendon things are probably cording. I had it running away from from SNB down the arm a little. Might be worth getting your doctor to check..do you have an appointment soon? gentle mobilising/massage seemed to help - had a physio show me how.

Maybe swimming would be ok - my surgeon suggested the beach rather than a pool due to risk of bugs. Did you get your free postsurgical bra? the breast care nurses can arrange it...nice and soft/supportive.

hope your results have been good!

all the best with your recovery and progress :)
