Tonsillitis

Just when I thought I was doing well, think I may have tonsillitis. Throat was a bit sore yesterday & Iv just had a look with my little torch, glands look pretty swollen. Also little pockets of icky yellow stuff. The rest of my mouth is fine so I don't think its ulcers. Try and get an apointment with my gp tomorrow morning. Has this happened to anyone else?

  • That's good advice: monitor your temperature above all. But if you're ok on that, maybe you're experiencing a cracking side-effect that I had, too. I didn't have mouth ulcers but after my first docetaxel the whole inside of my mouth and throat swelled up. It hurt like tonsilitis but more widespread--just felt like I'd drunk something poisonous (which is close to the truth I guess). My tonsils were swollen and a little gunky. I had a bit of a fever but mostly low-grade, like 37.5. My next scheduled chemo was delayed thanks to this and low white blood cell count (even though I was doing the neulasta injections).

Keep monitoring your temp. If no fever, you should still get onto it quickly. Tell your gp's receptionist what's going on and maybe they'll find an appt for you. Hope you're feeling better soon.
    Go well,

  • A work man came to the house to fix our kitchen tap, and I could hear him sniffing and coughing quietly to himself.  I didnt panic, and didnt run around with Glen 20 or sterilise anything.  I had the worst tonsilitis, ear, sinus infection the next day.  My Dr. (Oncologist),  did give me a script on stand by, so I had it here, filled.  I just rang him to get his ok and started to take them straight after that.  I always had a script on standby incase I got one, and glad I did.  I took my temp and monitored it, but it didnt progress for too long. • Keep a check on your temp as this is not a good time to get an infection. Don't mess around waiting for an appointment with your GP if your temp starts to go up as your immune system maybe down. Get yourself straight to your nearest emergency department if your temp gets to 38. I have just got out of hospital after needing treatment for an infection and discovering my white blood count was too low to fight it without strong IV antibiotics. Hopefully this is not the case for you. Hope you feel better soon. Take really good care of yourself. Deanne xxx
