Try eating some paw paw or papaya..that smooth gelatinous texture is very soothing. Other than that, I found drinking something ice cold, or sucking on ice chips worked well. Of course, you can get any number of ointments, drops and so on from the chemist. Stuff for teething babies works well. Make sure you don't have thrush as well.
