teary eyes

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has had problems/knows any solutions to almost constant teary eyes.  I have lost most of my eyelashes now and tears stream down my face and also I have notice slight skin thickening on my face near these areas.  Not an attractive look!  The chemist suggested "Refesh tears plus" but it has not made any difference.

Tearfully yours,

Julia

I am not sure if you are still having chemo but i also suffered with teary eyes during my chemo - i found that if i took an antihistimine tab daily such as claratyne for allergy it did make a difference. I asked the pharmacist and she said there is no problem in taking this with chemo but you may want to check this wherever you are!!

I hope this helps - all the best.

  • Hi Julia, I sufferred badly with teary eyes. It was always the last week before my next session that was the worst. It is actually dry eyes that cause all the tears, and I have had it for a few years. Chemo really worsened it. The best thing for me was the Refresh liquigel drops. They are a bit thicker than the normal drops, but not as thick as the ointment. They are very soothing. On really bad days you could use the gel/ointments before going to bed, and the Refresh liquigel during the day. I use to keep a tissue with me to mop my eyes during the worse 3 days. Good luck. My eyes are now better than they have been for a long time Love Chris xx
  • Hi Julia,

I too tried all sorts of drops but the thing that worked for me was tight wrap around sunglasses. I wore them indoors, especially in areas of airconditioning as well as outside on even rainy days. They have to wrap around and fit tightly, picked them up from the chemist for under $20 and they are quite fashionable as well!

I figured that my eyes were irritated by the surroundings that eyelashes and eyebrows would have protected me from, and tried them on the offchance and much to my surprise it worked!

An easy solution for me, hope it works for you.

  • Hi Julia

I had the same problem during chemo and the nurses suggested that i try Refresh eye drops. it did help a bit, but i found that my eyes kept streaming for a few weeks after chemo finished and only really started to settle down after about a month. it was suggested to me that if the eye drops didnt help i could see a doctor about getting my tear ducts unblocked but I didn't really like the sound of that so just struggled on - and all is okay now.  Not sure if this helps...!
