Tamoxifen. So Worried

Hi Jen. It's been 7 days now for me so I'm no help :-( I hope someone comes along and has some answered for you xx

Hi ladies, I have been on tamoxifen for 10 months and for the first 8 mnths had no trouble just a few hot flushes... in fact I thought is it actually doing anything!. The flushes are getting stronger but I am 51 years of age, so menopause should be around the corner.Two months ago I developed tingling in my fingers and feet.... Leapt to drama queen conclusions and decided I had MS, but did all the tests and I am fine, in fact nothing wrong.  

So I think its the tamxoifen , but no one else agrees. Its listed in the sideeffects list but as very rare but the oncologist says that those studies didnt prove  it was tamoxifen and was probably coincidental. They've told me fibromyalgia and I should take up yoga and relaxation or take endep at night.

'Has anyone else had tingling? If so did it go away when you stopped it. I can put up with it if I know it will go away in another 4 years and 2 mnths.

That's so true Deanne. He is the most wonderful man xx I start tamox Monday week. I'm starting to feel a bit better taking it now. I have been through so much with surgery, chemo then radiation yet a little white pill each day scares me so much. It's very strange. My hair grew slow too,then it had a growth spurt, now it's slowing again? I would say its a number 2 now and quite a salt and pepper colour. I finished chemo on march 12th so it's been 10 weeks. My bottom lashes have grown, still no eyebrows though :-)

I thought it had but since I had my first trim about 6 weeks ago it has thickened up and other than some curls on top is returning more to the hair I had before! I had thick, strong but straight hair before. My hairdresser tells me she thinks it is heading that way again (just had a second trim and it is almost into the style I want to keep!) For me I think it has been the chemo rather than the tamoxifen that has had the biggest effect on my head hair. Mine has been very slow growing compared to some other ladies on here. Like everything, we all have different effects and even then these effects change as your body adjusts.

Enjoy those lovely flowers and remember we might have been unlucky to get breast cancer but we are VERY LUCKY to have such wonderful men in our lives. :) xx

What a terrific husband you have. There have been many times where I have felt overwhelmed, exhausted and emotional and not sure what to do and my hubby has stepped in with his logic and problem solved things for me too! Radiation, especially coming on top of chemo (which you worked through too!) does really take a bit to get over. I think we just keep going while we are having that active treatment but when you get to the end it catches up. Just give yourself a chance to rest and I really think you will regain your strength and confidence and cope just fine with the tamoxifen. Another positive I thought to mention is that the tamoxifen has slowed and thinned my body hair. Don't have to wax or shave as much! So it's definitely not all bad! :) Rest up and look after yourself. You have done so well. Deanne xxx

My husband rang my onc today to talk to her and she is so wonderful.

she said because Im in so much pain with my rad burns and still recovering from chemo everything is just so huge and overwhelming which is normal apparently.

She just wants to reassure me that it will be ok and she has given me 2 weeks to get over my burns and to start to feel better. xxx

Soz to hear you are feeling anxious...cyber hug to you gorgeous gal!

I've been on it nearly 4 months now....hot flushes, yes, but I reckon they were worse while on chemo. I feel like they have settled down even further now so just go with the flow......no other issues for me regarding dryness etc - I had expected it after reading the side effects and warned my husband - but - no problem with this area!

On a positive note....I feel alot clearer in my mind - less fuzzy if that makes sense after the chemo etc.  Also, my vision is clearer...don't know why, I just notice I can see my phone better! So maybe this is some good feedback about Tamoxifen...who knows!

Just take that little white pill Jodie....and remember the benefit of taking it in the long run! Good luck.....Jen x

I forgot to add that for me there has been no issue with weight gain, either. I eat carefully and exercise daily and have actually lost weight. So keep an open mind and you will be fine! :) Deanne xxx
