Tamoxifen and rashes

Dear ladies
ive been in tamoxifen since September last year, n since then (probably after 3 weeks) I develop a rash that started in my back n now is spreading to my neck n shoulders ...
im trying to keep myself with a healthy diet n exercise 3 times a week but this is getting worst and worst.
what can I do? Is that normal taking tamoxifen? It looks like eczemas like rash, which I never had in my life.
please any advice or what can I do to keep this manageable?
thank u!!!

  • I  had a generic brand of Tamoxifen as my preferred brand wasn't available. I will not use generic again. I was very unwell.
Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of why the rash is there and it'll be treated and gone. Take care xx
  • Sorry can't help about the rash but Deanne's point is a good one. Both my regular chemists promote generic (cheaper) brands when I get prescriptions filled. I don't take them because the active ingredients may be the same but the binders aren't and may cause different reactions. Sometimes the actual prescription doesn't suit, so you need to get something else prescribed but I wonder how many reactions are problems with generic substitutes? I'm a bit against chemists doing this, as it's a commercially driven offer.
  • @Claudia79,
I agree that this needs to be checked out with a doctor. However, I did read on here about another lady who developed a rash when she changed brands of Tamoxifen. She was reacting to one of the ingredients that was different in that particular brand. When she swapped back to her original brand the rash went away.

I am sorry I don't know which brand it was. There have been a number of women (myself included) who have had different or worse side effects from different brands of Tamoxifen. This might be something to consider and rule out in your situation. Deanne xxx
  • Claudia - a rash that has been around for as long as yours needs attention.  Are you due to see the Oncologist for review?  At the very least you should be ringing your Breast care nurse and talking with her or heading in to see  your GP.  Is it Tamoxifen related?  Can't answer that!  Is it a reaction to a soap and or moisturiser that you have been using?  After surgery I had an horrendous rash which turned out to be topical and reacted whenever I used sorbolene.
    Take care
