Tamoxifen alternative B17

Hi.  Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on B17, a natural alternative to Tamoxifen.  I am not keen to go on Tamoxifen due to its many side effects and am wondering if there are any out there who are using B17?

  • Hi Gerbera.  I've chosen - so far - not to take Tamoxifen. I had a low risk cancer and the side effects freak me out. There are some herbal 'anti cancer' preparations you can try, but I'd absolutely recommend you do this through a qualified naturopath/herbalist, to ensure you're taking a safe dose and you aren't taking anything that could interfere with other medication etc. I'm following this path with a medical herbalist in Melbourne.  Hope you find a solution that you're comfortable with. Best of luck, Pam xx

  • Thank you ladies.  I have an aquantance who has been taking B17 for 5 years and swears by it.  I must say I am horrified by the effects of Tamoxifen so am really wanting to find an alternative.  My dad died of a blood clot to the lungs and my understanding from what I have read is that I have a 30% increased risk of the same thing happening on Tamoxifen not to mention the increased risks in liver and uterine cancers.  The World Health Organisation lists Tamoxifen as a human carcinogen and the Australian Nation Health and Medical Research Council warns that no amount of tamoxifen is safe when it comes to carcinogenic effects so hence, I am extremely hesitant to take this drug.   Are we going to find out in 30 years time that this drug caused more harm than good as we have with many drugs throughout history?  I am really wanting to seek out alternative natural treatments rather than put myself at more risk by taking this synthetic drug with so much risk attached to it.

  • Hi, My understanding is that for cancer B17 works as a sugar coated cynadie pill and is found in Almond kernels. The rationale is that the cancer cells have a high demand for sugar/ energy and so attract the B17 and then get wiped out by the cynide.

I'm not even sure whether its available in Australia and as Julie has already mentioned there have been cases of cynaidde poisioning. I had some genetic testing done and it was one of the supplements identified as being effective in managing my cancer - hence i did some research but decided to go with the other supplements.

I also chose not to take Tamoxifen as the absolute (rather than relative) reduction in risk in my case was only a couple of % so when i weighed up the option of certain menopause vs slight reduction in risk and considered the 'sampling error' I opted out - but as Julie says, there are many folk who have opted in.

Not sure whether you've seen the book Five to Thrive by Dr Lise N Alschuler and Karoln A Gazella - i found it very helpful

    All the best, Hazel
