Tamoxifen after hysterectomy (kept ovaries)

Hi Ladies,

2 years ago I had a  hysterectomy (non cancer related) and retained my ovaries.  Since then I have rarely felt or noticed regular cycling/ovulation.

Following a double mastectomy 7 weeks ago for multi-focal papillary cancer in my left breast, I have started on Tamoxifen as my ongoing treatment.  It has only been a week, so yes very early days.....had a a bit of a pesky headache to start with a few restless nights, but nothing too bad.......but for the last few days I feel like my right ovary is about to explode, and I am very crampy - just like I about to have a very heavy period, which obviously I haven't had for 2 yrs now.

I know we all experience this drug differently but I am keen to know if this is something other ladies who have previously had a hysterectomy have experienced too???? I see the Oncologist again in about 7 weeks to review how things have been going...

Cheers

Sal

  • Happy to help - hopefully you have a GP like mine. She's been amazing Nikki xxxx
  • oh that is great to hear that you see your GP monthly @nikkid ......I really like the idea of that and think I will take a page out of your book and book in something similar.....thanks again for your response x

  • TBH I don't feel any different...no ovaries...but nothing to indicate that at all. Maybe because the Tamoxifen blocked the ovaries anyways.

Always good to voice concerns Sal - too much else can do our heads in here otherwise. GP would be more than happy to see you - I see mine monthly, even just to talk xx
  • Thanks @nikkid

Yup I agree that perhaps a check at the GP is the way to go just to be on the safe side.....at least then I have a baseline to go forward with too....I think deep down I am worried that I will be seen as a nervous nelly every time a get a bit of a twinge :):)

Thanks - sometimes just being able to "think out loud" in this space makes all the difference.

I hope all is ok for you now following your removal of additional girly parts !!

  • Hey Sal,

I had a pelvic ultrasound (will have one annually from now on whilst on Tamoxifen and they found something weird going on with my left fallopian tube (I had no symptoms whatsoever). I ended up having the tubes and ovaries removed. If you don't feel 'right' I'd suggest a visit to your GP for a check and perhaps even an ultrasound...best to know what's happening or not :).
