Self image and wigs during chemo

Hi everyone

Due to start chemo very soon. I am just wanting to get tips on making myself look as well as i can during chemo treatment. Ive registered for the look well feel better program but im just wanting any other tips for now. Planning to invest in a wig- so any advice on that would be great. Anyone recommend shaving all hair off before chemo starts so its less traumatic?

  • I never had a wig, but I did shave my head before chemo started. I had very long hair, (I used to sit on it and had grown it since I was eleven. We made it a family affair, with my daughter and daughter in law brushing and plaiting it one last time. My weeping husband of (at that time) 37 years cut off the pig tail, and my son buzzed it to a Marine #2. My grandson cheered us all on from his highchair. I had control over my hair, I still have my pig tail, it hangs from a hook above hubby's desk and the cancer could have the remaining 2 mm. I would imagine that if you tried, then bought a wig whilst you still have your hair, it may be a bit loose when the hair goes. Good luck with your treatment.
