Round one of chemo over!

Just had my first round of TCH chemo yesterday and it was not nearly as difficult as I'd expected.  Actually, having a chat with a few girls at a Look Good Feel Better seminar on Wednesday really helped me to be in a positive frame of mind for it.  They were only a few days post chemo and were doing really well.  Fantastic program by the way.  Especially loved learning about different ways to use scarves and extra bling to personalise your look!

Back to chemo.  Although the entire day took over 6 hours, I was lucky not to suffer any adverse reactions during the chemo.  The next time should only take 3 hours I'm told.  The nurses at Ringwood Private were wonderful and gave me lots of information to combat any side effects that I might have.  Speaking of side effects, the only thing so far is dry mouth (Biotene Dry Mouthwash helps), stomach pain (Mylanta) and trouble sleeping.  I'm sure that there will be more to come, but am thankful for the wonderful anti-nausea medicine that I received during the chemo infusion.

One day at a time!!!

  • It's ridiculous that spacy feeling isn't it? Its a pity its not a drug sort of high and we could just lay in bed going la la la.

  • Yes, here I was going to work on Monday morning and feeling so spaced out!  Won't make that mistake next time.  Thankfully no nausea, just that dizzy, spacey feeling and the fatigue!

  • Hi Kristye,

i really do hope that you are one of the lucky ones who gets off lightly regarding side effects. I found on TCH that I had the infusion on Thursday and would feel off pretty much as soon as it was administered but by Sunday I felt like hell for at least a week. Take everything you have been advised to take whether you think you need it or not. Good luck. Karen xox

  • So happy your first round went so well!..

It's also interesting to read  the different reactions for the different types of chemo ...

best wishes for the rest of your treatments!

  • Ok Brenda, I've been told that can happen.  Crossing my fingers for next time!

  • Thanks Jacqui, I was actually able to still get out and about and attend the kids sporting activities today which was good.

  • Yes that first one takes ages as they do it at half speed just to keep an eye on you to make sure you don't have any bad reactions. Actually I was good on the first one too. It was the second one I had a reaction on and they had to halt it and add two more lots of pre-meds which they also gave me just to be safe before every chemo dose thereafter. I didn't have any other troubles with it then.

  • so glad your first session went well with few side effects. I hope the rest of your treatment goes smoothly. Sending you lots of hugs
