happy Sunday everyone !im starting to feel a little excited as I now have only 4 more weeks (out if 20) to go with chemo.then I have a break for two weeks and then 25 radiation sessions. At about 1/2 way into the rads I have a wedding to go to and wanted to start looking for a dress to wear as something to look forward too. How bad will my burns be? Am I best looking for something that covers up the breast and underarm area in case I have dressings in etc ?thank you !

@Jen79x I had 16 rounds radiotherapy last May - I was surprised that my skin damage was minor despite being a very fair redhead. I used Dermaveen a lot plus a herbal lotion supplied at the clinic - many ladies on here swear by Moo Goo. We went to Cairns shortly after and did note I had to be very careful with UV however - I wore a long sleeve rashie a lot and did not feel comfortable with lengthy times in the sun so did not do some adventures with my family..I would think you might need to coverup to protect yourself from late afternoon sun.I think skin damage might be related to how many rounds you have and yes your type of skin.I was told by nurse at radiotherapy clinic my type of skin surprisingly not severely effected - she had an Asian lady with serious skin problems however.I never needed dressings . I bought post op front opening cotton bras from target which helped but all the creaming discoloured them badly and I also wore a soft top as I had zapping under my armpit - you may need to consider carefully the fabric of your outfit or be prepared to wear a soft cotton top underneath it. Btw I was told to cream up not only during treatment but for 3months afterwards 3 times a day - I did more than that when I felt the need and I did in Qld which was in July 6 weeks after it ended.

@Jen79x they are a seamless bra almost like a trainer bra.I’ll try and get a photo of one. One proviso I would not recommend them during radiotherapy and afteruntil things settle down and you don’t have to cream and are no longer sore as they are not absorbent and contain nylon so could irritate. PS I have bigger breasts 16D and find they support fine

Not sure about front opening so much but cotton yes for absorbency and no wires. The Target front opener as time went on used to open of irs own accord in spots .

I've no experience of radiation (or chemo, yet) but you must be so excited about almost finishing chemo! Is the wedding during the day? If you're going to be outside you may want to cover up anyway so that you don't have to worry about sun.

I burnt badly the last 5 treatments but with lots of dressings l still wore my bra lm a 12g and found it better than not as l burnt under the breast

Having worn bras all my adult life, I didn't think I'd give them up for radiation, but I did! For the last ten sessions, including 5 boost sessions, bras were out of the question. Wore nothing at first, but then got a boob tube and a crop top at the op shop...oooh, a rhyme! and they made everything feel much more normal. After an extreme reaction, where I ended up with Moist desquamation...look it up; you'll be so glad you didn't have it! I'm nearly healed, and am feeling pretty good.

I used Q.V. 6 weeks after radio finished on a trip to Cairns and worked ok but Dermaveen prior to that

I had 30 rads. Moo Goo is awesome. I only started to get burnt around number 20. Still managed to wear a normal bra until the last couple of days as the dressings wouldn't fit in them.
Best to go for a bit of sun protection though I think. Hopefully you don't have too many issues.

Just a reminder my Target front opening bras were from Target’s post op range ie they have have a small range for ladies having breast surgery - can’t comment whether any better however than any other post op ranges.
