Post treatment scalp and hair care

Hi all,

I have finished chemo treatment two weeks ago and I have noticed this grey fuzzy hair starting to growing back in patches (I use to have brunette hair) and my scalp on top is starting to feel a little irritated. I have read I need to buy mild and gentle shampoo. Can anyone recommend what they have used? There seems to be a few different products but I am not sure and would be grateful for any recommendations? I would like to promote growth but aware I probably need something for sensitive skin too.

Thanks all,

  • I was actually looking for help with a skin irritation and itchiness on my chest and cleavage.  I had used MooGoo (from the sample gift box I was given) but ran out so started using other brands such as Goat and Aveena.  Might go back to MooGoo, because it did seem to work OK a few weeks ago when I first started getting the itch (which is worse now). Worth a go. Thanks.
  • Thanks @Tinks, I hadn’t heard of this moisturiser before, will look into. Also great advice on shampoo criteria to consider.

I can certainly see the fuzzy nature of my regrowth😀

    Cheers again

  • I am near finishing 5 weeks RT after EC and T. Hair growing back white and fuzzy, still a long way to go!

My scalp is a bit irritated too and so dry (like all my skin since chemo) and helped by putting on a light application of moo goo udder cream moisturiser which I am using for breast area too. Sounds like an odd thing to do but it works for me! Scalp is not itchy and looks well nourished. I haven't needed shampoo yet. When I do I will use one that is sulphate free, and paraben free etc. Hope this helps xx
  • Thank you for that @Blossom1961, will look into.
    Cheers
  • Hi @Mags44 I actually put coconut oil on my head in the initial regrowth stages as shampoo was unnecessary. It stopped the itch and as it grew longer, the itch stopped and only then did I start to shampoo it.
