Post-Treatment Fatigue
Gosh I am having a whammy of a fatigue day. I don't get them very often. Today I feel utterly wrecked. My body feels like lead and I just want to crawl into bed and sleep. Which I won't do because then I'll be awake all night.
I've had a long lie in and a slow and gentle start. What's the best thing to do now? Should I try to power through, go for a brisk walk and get on with the housework? Or is it best to have an easy day? I genuinely don't know what the strategy should be for these days and would love to hear what the hive mind suggests! K <3

- SisterMember@PatsyN I agree - their needs to be at least 3 more offered - sad, empathy and LMTOSign in to react to this post
- PatsyNMember@Sister - I wonder why there isn't an empathy emoji that could be added to our choices of response.
Probably that's the only one that would get used, lol.Sign in to react to this post - SisterMember@patsyn - I don't know if I am maintaining a family. School holidays and I sit on the bloody couch or head off to bed as soon as tea's finished while the rest have a family movie. Two more weeks and I hope the worst effects of this chemo will be over. I know I won't be up to speed but I hope that I'll be able to human. I would say that I get up to about a 6 towards the end of the week (mind you, if I do anything silly that knocks it right back down) but I live around the 8 or 9.Sign in to react to this post
- kmakmMemberThank you @PatsyN, that's very kind of you to say. We get through somehow, doing what we have to. It takes a year to recover from chemo. I hope those 7 & 8s drop to 5 & 6s for you soon. K xoxSign in to react to this post
- PatsyNMemberI wake up every morning thinking I've got the flu, I'm hungover, pregnant and then I remember it's none of those things.
@kmakm I'm lucky that my housework is non-existent as two thirds of my living area is outside and protected. The more you use it, the cleaner it gets, lol.
I have no children at home anymore so it's just me, the dog and the horse that I need to care for. I can't imagine the pressure of looking after kids (although for the first 2 weeks of my AC chemo I had my 2 grandchildren aged 10 and 12 and they were good as gold - they looked after me).
My fatigue on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being stuck in bed and 1 being normal would be around 7 or 8 depending on the day - I might even have experienced a 6 in March. (I wear a fitbit and it keeps reminding me of my lagging goals and my alarming resting heartrate, which can be as high as 120 during the day)
I'm looking for improvement but it's a very slow road.
I don't know how any of you go to work or maintain a family.
I find it truly remarkable the strength and fortitude shown by the women on this site and I have drawn inspiration from all of you.Sign in to react to this post - primekMemberI'd do a something for me day. I'd be off for a swim and catch up with a friend for coffee or go clothes shopping together. Then I'd settle in and watch some netflex. Fatigue can be from mental exhaustion also and it's important to nurture yourself with something that helps that. XSign in to react to this post

YEEESSS!!!! And Highlighted ones to! Just because if I do it in colour, it'll keep me focused...plus, nothing more satisfying the ticking things off the list. Really makes you feel like you've accomplished something even though it may seem like you haven't.
I try to make my "hospital" lists as colourful as I can, that way it'll make me want to stare at it and tick things off, lol
For the first time in a long time I had 8hours and 45mins sleep last night, I woke up absolutely wrecked and not wanting to get out of bed! lolSign in to react to this post - SisterMemberWhile the talk is about getting exercise every day during treatment @kmakm , I've kind of picked up that the medical folk often mean just getting out of bed and moving around. So cooking and washing definitely make that! Hope you feel more on top of it today.
I hate that I have to make lists these days. I used to make lists so that other people knew what to do (diary was for the same reason) - I kept it all in my head! In a lecture group of potential librarians, I was the only one who was not a compulsive list maker. Totally different story now - my lists have lists. (And if I'm being honest, it started around the time I had babies)Sign in to react to this post
