Paclitaxel
I’m have trouble with my feet and hands after the forth treatment of Paclitaxel. My oncologist is talking about stopping it altogether. I still have 8 more treatments to go and was wondering if anyone has any idea what treatment they would give as an alternative. I was diagnosed with triple negative. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

- poodlejulesMember@Locksley ouch about the toenail , get it looked at for sure. Hope you managed to get back to sleep, nothing worse than being wide awake at that hour! Good luck with it all x
- LocksleyMemberHi @Ween, hope all goes well for your radiotherapy. Tonight I am WIDE awake and cannot sleep. Ended up getting out of bed getting a peppermint tea and catching up on emails. (I may have been browsing on ebay too). My cancer is hormone receptor positive and HER2 negative. Yes, 9 more to go. Sending hugs xx
- LocksleyMemberHi @poodlejules thank you for your tips. I had also painted my toe nails before I started. Today I removed the nail polish and it looks like my big toenail is split / cracked in the middle. This could be causing me pain too! I have one of those containers. I will fish it out. Cheers
- poodlejulesMemberHi @Locksley, good on you for persevering with the ice. I did it too for all of my chemo sessions 3 1/2 years ago now and kept all of my nails and had no peripheral neuropathy , just a tingle towards the end on the tip of one little finger.
If the tingling is happening more in your toes, you might need to ditch the socks and ice packs. I used a cake container from the Reject shop and balanced it on a small esky (as I couldn't reach the floor with my short legs !) , wrapped my legs in bags and plunged my feet into the ice, your feet then have more contact with the ice and I think that makes all the difference. All the best with the rest of your chemo and your radiotherapy ! - WeenMemberHi Locksley Sounds like you are hanging in there. Three down I image you have 9 more to go. Fingers crossed nothing comes of the little pings. Is your cancer Triple negative? I have been stretching my shoulder twice a day so hoping it doesn’t start shaking at radiotherapy. Looking forward to starting so it can get over and done with. Please keep me updated with how you’re going. Take Care. Ween
- LocksleyMemberHI @ween and @abbydog, yes I am still doing ice therapy - have had 3 sessions now. I have had a couple of little pings of pain in toes and a thumb but I feel like it is working. I will get onto my exercises. Ooh 25 sessions sounds awful. I think I am fearing the raditation more than the chemo.
- KristenMemberMy local hospital & a local exercise physiologist have been doing a study on CIPN,(chemo induced p neuropathy) we had out breast care nurse tell us about it ages ago but i just was browsing the online forum & saw this thread. i haven't heard if they have finished the study yet ,but their facebook page has many good articles and links to information about CIPN which followers of this thread may find helpful & interesting . https://www.facebook.com/infocus.study
- AbbydogMemberDear Ween,
25 in total. 5 done. I too had Mastectomy with Axillary clearance, 3 nodes positive.
My treatment also includes the subclavicular area, of the affected side. They tell me there is a lymph gland under the collar bone, that was not reached with my surgery. I believe the treatment is just in case of spread.
Good luck with your exercises/stretches. It should help. - WeenMemberAbbydog thank you for your support. Will be practicing hard before the 16th Hopefully the nerves in my shoulder and underarm will loosen. How many treatments are you having?
- AbbydogMemberDear Ween,
I wish you well with your Radiotherapy and issues re keeping your arm still. Hopefully it will get easier for you as you progress.
