Night Sweats

Hi beautiful ladies

I thought I was going to get away from side effects of tamoxifen, but alas I am not. I'm entering my third month on being being on both tamoxifen and zoladex and the night sweats and hot flashes have started.

Can anyone recommend anything to take to lessen them?

Love and light to all

  • Hi Georgia, effexor an anti depressant is excellent for night sweats and is actually the only anti depressant we are allowed to take whilst on tamoxifen so ask about that, it takes a couple of weeks to work so hang in there xxxx

  • Scotty, sorry off the track a  bit here.  How are you going with effexor, I have had it prescribed for my anxiety but I am worried about the side effects so haven't started taking it yet.

  • Hi Georgia, I am having terrible hot flushes already and I have not started hormone therapy.  I am told it will get worse when I start, not looking forward to it. Take care, Lorraine

  • Sweaty nights!!!! Join the club!! Stick a leg out.......they are awful aren't they? I am into my second year of tamoxifen and the flashes are quite amazing. I even get cold flashes where only a part of my body gets cold. I have also asked out there for relief, but sorry, there are not many recommendations. It would be lovely to have a good night's sleep.

    Take care Georgia

  • I will put my 'two bobs worth'in  here ladies!! I am almost at the end of 2 years on Tamoxifen. My oncologist told me that things would settle down, and she was right!!! The first few months were terrible.Day and night, and I really started to feel that it wouldn't improve. However, for about the last 3 months or so,I hardly have them at night any more.I do wake, and often have a mild hot flush, just as I wake,so I guess that means it actually woke me.But no more than once or twice a night. It used to be dozens of times throughout a 24 hour period.During the day, they are almost non existent, but I definitely know now what can cause one.Coffee or tea, being stressed, feeling upset etc.I have proven this to myself over and over again.Things that have helped me over the months are: cold drinks( to cool your core)sleep with an oscillating fan right next to the bed, winter and summer.Wear only cotton, and only layers.Dont just wear a jumper that you can't take off.A chillow pillow....mine actually broke, but it was great while it lasted, and I don't need it now.Cotton sheets with a high thread count,as they are lovely and cool.Take care and hang in there :):) Cheers Robynxox

  • Hi Georgia

I have only recently started taking Tamoxifen and have not yet experienced night sweats but I have had some other side effects and was wondering if any one else has experienced them. I have been feeling quite light headed at times and feel vague especially when I am felling tired. I also think I have developed thrush . Has anyone experienced these side effects?

  • Thank you to all.

I will ask ask my gp about effexor.

Ronni, not only do I stick a leg out but kick the doona off or stick an arm out ... feel like a thermostat at times. One has no choice but to persist.

I'm now off to see see my gp for my monthly zoladex injection. So looking forward to it ... not!

    Love and light.

Hi Georgia, I found that drinking decaf coffee and tea helped reduce sweats, also I stay away from chocolate and only rarely have alcohol, as that stimulates flushes as well. Hope that this helps, Trace ????
