Lymphoedema registry and new techniques
Went to my Lymphoedema therapist and had a lovely low bio-impedence measurement again 5.3. this means 2 years stability and best of all my therapist said I didn't need new garments since in good condition and also same size for more than 2 years yippee finally some good news.
She also said that Dr Mackie from Mt Wilga, ALA and Lymphoedema Alliance had said the lymphoedema registry now up to some 700 people registered although this still is far short of estimated numbers for Australia and New Zealand. still need many more people to register if we can truly know the extent of the problem in Australia and New Zealand then advocate for better services for us all
Then she did a lymphoedema massage (first time in about 4 years since time usually taken up with measuring for a new set of expensive custom made garment) Then she asked if I wanted to use her new negative pressure tool on my scar tissue. I said Yes please. I did not expect such quick results. the formerly hard tissue under the scaring from one of my 4 radiation sites (on my clavicle so very visible when wearing low cut or summer tops) now is much softer. I will have another session next week and a 3rd a week or so later again.
this is very good timing since she will be talking to our Lymphoedema Group on Tuesday 4th August. I hadn't expected to get an appointment before our long planned talk but was lucky enough to get a cancellation. I had no idea this device could do so much so quickly. I knew that as my arm no longer was fibrotic, she probably was not going to use it on me but then she must have had such good results with other patients, that she did decide to use on my arm as well so that the now fatty tissue might disappear.
When we first started talking on what she would talk about with our group it was kinesiotaping and if she had it in time, her new "toy" - I assumed I was just going to see another device which might be useful for other members of our Upper North Shore Group of the NSW Lymphoedema Support group but not be applicable to me who had responded so well to my initial treatment. Not so. Anyone who is interested in seeing whether this is suitable for their scarring or lymphoedema would need to contact their therapist or if in Sydney and interested contact me and come to our 6pm meeting in Waitara at the Asquith Leagues CLub.
cant believe I just raved so much about a new device for lymphoedema
