I.V. chemo and Maxolon

Yesterday I was about to start I.V. chemo. Before attempting this, the oncology nurse gave me an infusion of Maxolon. I had a severe reaction to this drug. It made me very agitated. So much so that I  had to leave the treatment room.
When I got home the Maxolon gave me diarrhoea.
What I want to know is: has anyone else had this reaction to Maxolon?

  • I eventually realised the Maxalon was giving me a 'panicky' feeling and a bit woozy in the head. Have much the same feeling with the adrenaline based local anaesthetics at the dentist. I thought for ages I was just being a woos and having a panic attack!
  • Hi @"Patti J" I had exactly the same reaction to Maxolon during taxol and it freaked me out. I had been completely free of any complications up to then so I ditched all the ‘extra’ drugs completely and just had my chemo infusion.

Gives me the willies just thinking about it.

  • I spoke to my oncologist about my reaction. Apparently it was called akathisia. Next time I will be having Ondansetron (Zofran).
  • We are all SO different. Maxalon does very little for or to me. Neither does Endone. Yet Herceptin causes all kinds of weird side effects that very few people experience. No wonder it is hard for the researchers to find out stuff.
  • It must be a very strong drug. I won't be taking it again!
  • My reaction to Maxalon (during pregnancy) was that my jaw locked and my eyeballs started rolling about in their sockets...apparently a well known but somewhat rare occurrence.
