I missed my hair and now it is back but what do i do with it?

I lost all my hair during the chemo.  At one stage I had one eyebrow (oh so glamorous!) which I promptly shaved off and the odd bit of "fluff" that had grown on my head in sporadic places.  Then the eyebrows grew back - oh my god, I looked like John Howard with mad regrowth!  Managed to get that tamed into some sort of decent arch in place.  Then they fell out again - along with my eyelashes!   

12 weeks post chemo - my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes have returned. In fact my hair is growing so well, I have buzz cut it twice to tame it into submission.  It is softer, slightly thicker than before and i have little beginnings of curls - my hair was once very thin and dead straight.  It is extraordinary how our bodies fight back! 
I must admit, I did love being bald after years of growing my hair very long.  it was refreshing to not have to deal with it.  I do miss the ease and care of having no hair but also glad its back because NOONE looks at me with the "pity cancer look"...which is nice because I was concerned there for a while, my kids might actually kill people or smack them for staring!

Saw my hairdresser today . she’s suggested just keeping eye on length at back ( it may need the odd trim, until the sides and top catch up length wise ) I’ve never had short hair so at this,point I’m hoping to grow it back to usual shoulder length if I can. Hope it doesn’t drive me nuts waiting for it to get there. At the moment I have odd length standing out over my ears . LOL. Least it’s growing

You all look beautiful  <3 - I can't believe that your hair has grown back so quickly. At 3 months post chemo mine was only about 1cm long and now 12 months post chemo mine is only about 10 cm long. You all look great - enjoy the changing hair styles.xxx

Ageing rockabilly.

Yeah, ive got that bald eagle look going on. I definately look older than 48. Its been so hot that i gave up wearing a scarfe in last few days. Today i went to a major shopping centre without a scarfe. Ive now bought a couple of silky headbands which is a less harsh look.  Now I look like an ageing rockabilly. 

I look a bit washed out with grey so ive been applying  bit of blush and eyeshadow. 

I just worked out how to deal with the eyebrows better and they are growing back. 

Oh well. Its different thats for sure.

I finished chemo in August 2018 and mine grew back as white fluff in a few weeks - that combined with the lack of eyebrows made me look like a Wedge-Tailed Eagle chick (google the image - not great).  So I clipped it with a number 2 (or maybe 1 - can't remember).  Anyway, it did grow back and I hated the steel grey colour so I did dye it.  I let it grow to past shoulder length with the odd trim which took a couple of years.  The Letrozole has caused thinning and made my hair even finer than it was before so I always felt that it looked ratty.  Last year (like many other women, it seems), I gave up on colouring it - can't be bothered spending the money or the time.  In November, I got it all cut off into a short asymmetric style.  My husband wasn't impressed but I love it, I've had so many people say that it looks great, and my 18 yo son's first comment was "Cool haircut, Mum" .  The natural grey colour has softened somewhat and a colleague asked me where I had the colour done because it was such a good job - grey is the new black.  The short style has given me some volume back and hides the worst of the thinning.

It was important to me after chemo to let my hair grow.  Last year when I stopped colouring and even more so when I got it cut, it was just as important (perhaps, more important) to take control and get it cut into something with style and power.  I've already got possibilities for the next style lined up for when I get bored with this one.  

Anyway, @Michelle_R, I guess my point is that your hair will grow, it will feel different at first and may be a struggle to deal with until you get used to it.  I was fortunate enough to have a hairdresser who I have been seeing for donkey's years and felt confident enough to go to her fairly early on after chemo and ask her to tidy it up a bit.  You may want to do the same thing if you're not happy with your look.

@Locksley never mind the other chin. We all have or have had one. But you look happy and healthy 😊. Your hair will be longer again before you know it 👌🏻♥️
